12 ज्योतिर्लिंग और उनकी विशेषता
पुराणों और धार्मिक मान्यताओं के मुताबिक इन 12 स्थानों पर जो शिवलिंग मौजूद हैं उनमें ज्योति के रूप में स्वयं भगवान शिव विराजमान हैं. यही कारण है कि इन्हें ज्योतिर्लिंग कहा जाता है. ऐसी मान्यता है कि इन ज्योतिर्लिंगों के दर्शन मात्र से ही श्रद्धालुओं के सभी पाप दूर हो जाते हैं. देशभर में कहां-कहां पर हैं ये 12 ज्योतिर्लिंग यहां पढ़ें.
1. सोमनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग, गुजरात
गुजरात के सौराष्ट्र में अरब सागर के तट पर स्थित है देश का पहला ज्योतिर्लिंग जिसे सोमनाथ के नाम से जाना जाता है. शिव पुराण के अनुसार जब चंद्रमा को प्रजापति दक्ष ने क्षय रोग का श्राप दिया था तब इसी स्थान पर शिव जी की पूजा और तप करके चंद्रमा ने श्राप से मुक्ति पाई थी. ऐसी मान्यता है कि स्वयं चंद्र देव ने इस ज्योतिर्लिंग की स्थापना की थी.
2. मल्लिकार्जुन ज्योतिर्लिंग, आंध्र प्रदेश
आंध्र प्रदेश में कृष्णा नदी के किनारे श्रीशैल पर्वत पर स्थित है मल्लिकार्जुन ज्योतिर्लिंग. इसे दक्षिण का कैलाश भी कहते हैं और इस ज्योतिर्लिंग के दर्शन मात्र से सभी कष्ट दूर हो जाते हैं.
3. महाकालेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग, मध्य प्रदेश
मध्य प्रदेश के उज्जैन में क्षिप्रा नदी के तट पर स्थित है महाकालेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग. ये एकमात्र दक्षिणमुखी ज्योतिर्लिंग है जहां रोजाना होने वाली भस्म आरती विश्व भर में प्रसिद्ध है.
4. ओंकारेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग, मध्य प्रदेश
ओंकारेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग मध्य प्रदेश के मालवा क्षेत्र में स्थित है और नर्मदा नदी के किनारे पर्वत पर स्थित है. मान्यता है कि तीर्थ यात्री सभी तीर्थों का जल लाकर ओंकारेश्वर में अर्पित करते हैं तभी उनके सारे तीर्थ पूरे माने जाते हैं.
5. केदारनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग, उत्तराखंड
केदारनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग उत्तराखंड में अलखनंदा और मंदाकिनी नदियों के तट पर केदार नाम की चोटी पर स्थित है. यहां से पूर्वी दिशा में श्री बद्री विशाल का बद्रीनाथधाम मंदिर है. मान्यता है कि भगवान केदारनाथ के दर्शन किए बिना बद्रीनाथ की यात्रा अधूरी और निष्फल है.
6. भीमाशंकर ज्योतिर्लिंग, महाराष्ट्र
भीमाशंकर ज्योतिर्लिंग, महाराष्ट्र में पुणे से करीब 100 किलोमीटर दूर डाकिनी में स्थित है. यहां स्थित शिवलिंग काफी मोटा है, इसलिए इसे मोटेश्वर महादेव भी कहा जाता है.
7. विश्वनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग, उत्तर प्रदेश
उत्तर प्रदेश के वाराणसी शहर जिसे धर्म नगरी काशी के नाम से जाना जाता है वहां पर गंगा नदी के तट पर स्थित है बाबा विश्वनाथ का मंदिर जिसे विश्वनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग के नाम से जाना जाता है. ऐसी मान्यता है कि कैलाश छोड़कर भगवान शिव ने यहीं अपना स्थाई निवास बनाया था.
8. त्र्यंबकेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग, महाराष्ट्र
त्र्यंबकेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग महाराष्ट्र के नासिक से 30 किलोमीटर दूर पश्चिम में स्थित है. गोदावरी नदी के किनारे स्थित यह मंदिर काले पत्थरों से बना है. शिवपुराण में वर्णन है कि गौतम ऋषि और गोदावरी की प्रार्थना पर भगवान शिव ने इस स्थान पर निवास करने निश्चय किया और त्र्यंबकेश्वर नाम से विख्यात हुए.
9. वैद्यनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग, झारखंड
वैद्यनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग झारखंड के देवघर में स्थित है. यहां के मंदिर को वैद्यनाथधाम के नाम से जाना जाता है. कहा जाता है कि एक बार रावण ने तप के बल से शिव को लंका ले जाने की कोशिश की, लेकिन रास्ते में व्यवधान आ जाने से शर्त के अनुसार शिव जी यहीं स्थापित हो गए.
10. नागेश्वल ज्योतिर्लिंग, गुजरात
नागेश्वर मंदिर गुजरात में बड़ौदा क्षेत्र में गोमती द्वारका के करीब स्थित है. धार्मिक पुराणों में भगवान शिव को नागों का देवता बताया गया है और नागेश्वर का अर्थ होता है नागों का ईश्वर
कहते हैं कि भगवान शिव की इच्छा अनुसार ही इस ज्योतिर्लिंग का नामकरण किया गया है.
11. रामेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग, तमिलनाडु
भगवान शिव का 11वां ज्योतिर्लिंग तमिलनाडु के रामनाथम नामक स्थान में हैं. ऐसी मान्यता है कि रावण की लंका पर चढ़ाई से पहले भगवान राम ने जिस शिवलिंग की स्थापना की थी, वही रामेश्वर के नाम से विश्व विख्यात हुआ.
12. घृष्णेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग, महाराष्ट्र
घृष्णेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग महाराष्ट्र के संभाजीनगर के समीप दौलताबाद के पास स्थित है। भगवान शिव के 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से यह अंतिम ज्योतिर्लिंग है। इस ज्योतिर्लिंग को घुश्मेश्वर के नाम से भी जाना जाता है.

1. Somnath Jyotirlinga, Gujarat
The country's first Jyotirlinga known as Somnath is situated on the coast of the Arabian Sea in Saurashtra, Gujarat. According to Shiva Purana, when Prajapati Daksha had cursed the moon with tuberculosis, then by worshiping Lord Shiva and doing penance at this place, the moon got rid of the curse. It is believed that Chandra Dev himself established this Jyotirlinga.
2. Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga, Andhra Pradesh
Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga is situated on Srisailam mountain on the banks of river Krishna in Andhra Pradesh. It is also called the Kailash of the South and all the troubles go away just by seeing this Jyotirlinga.
3. Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, Madhya Pradesh
Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is situated on the banks of Kshipra river in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. This is the only south facing Jyotirlinga where the daily Bhasma Aarti is famous all over the world.
4. Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, Madhya Pradesh
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is located in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh and is situated on a mountain on the banks of the Narmada River. It is believed that the pilgrims bring water from all the pilgrimages and offer it at Omkareshwar, only then all their pilgrimages are considered complete.
5. Kedarnath Jyotirlinga, Uttarakhand
Kedarnath Jyotirlinga is situated on the top of Kedar on the banks of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers in Uttarakhand. Badrinathdham temple of Shri Badri Vishal is in the eastern direction from here. It is believed that the journey to Badrinath is incomplete and fruitless without seeing Lord Kedarnath.
6. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, Maharashtra
Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is located in Dakini, about 100 km from Pune in Maharashtra. The Shivling located here is very thick, hence it is also called Moteshwar Mahadev.
7. Vishwanath Jyotirlinga, Uttar Pradesh
The temple of Baba Vishwanath, known as Vishwanath Jyotirlinga, is located on the banks of the river Ganga in the Varanasi city of Uttar Pradesh, which is known as Dharma Nagri Kashi. It is believed that leaving Kailash, Lord Shiva made his permanent abode here.
8. Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga, Maharashtra
Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is located 30 km west of Nashik in Maharashtra. This temple situated on the banks of river Godavari is made of black stones. It is described in Shivpuran that on the prayer of Gautam Rishi and Godavari, Lord Shiva decided to reside at this place and became famous by the name Trimbakeshwar.
9. Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga, Jharkhand
Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga is located in Deoghar, Jharkhand. The temple here is known as Vaidyanathdham. It is said that once Ravana tried to take Shiva to Lanka with the power of penance, but due to obstruction on the way, Shiva settled here as per the condition.
10. Nageshwal Jyotirlinga, Gujarat
The Nageshwar temple is located in the Baroda region of Gujarat, close to Gomti Dwarka. In religious Puranas, Lord Shiva has been described as the god of snakes and Nageshwar means Lord of snakes.
It is said that this Jyotirlinga has been named according to the wish of Lord Shiva.
11. Rameshwar Jyotirlinga, Tamil Nadu
The 11th Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva is in a place called Ramanatham in Tamil Nadu. It is believed that the Shivling established by Lord Rama before Ravana's march to Lanka became world famous by the name of Rameshwar.
12. Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga, Maharashtra
Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga is located near Daulatabad near Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra. This is the last Jyotirlinga among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This Jyotirlinga is also known as Ghushmeshwar.
