भगवान गणेश को दूर्वा क्यों अर्पित की जाती है?
प्राचीन काल में हर जगह राक्षसों का आतंक फैला हुआ था। राक्षस देवताओं और ऋषि मुनियों को बहुत परेशान किया करते थे। ऐसा ही एक राक्षस था अनलासुर। अनलासुर ने हर जगह हाहाकार मचा रखा था। सभी देवतागण उससे बहुत डरते थे। जब अनलासुर के पाप बहुत बढ़ गए तब सभी देवतागण भगवान शिव के पास पहुंचे। शिव जी ने कहा कि अनलासुर का विनाश सिर्फ गणेश जी कर सकते हैं।

शिव भगवान की यह बात सुनकर सभी देवतागण श्री गणेश जी के पास पहुंचे। गणेश जी के सामने सभी हाथ जोड़कर खड़े हो गए और बोले हे प्रभु! हमें इस निर्दयी राक्षस से बचा लो। देवताओं की ऐसी दैन्य स्थिति को देखकर श्रीगणेश उनकी मदद के लिए तैयार हो गए।

इस घटना के बाद अनलासुर और श्री गणेश जी के बीच भयानक युद्ध होता है। क्रोध में आकर श्री गणेश अनलासुर को निगल जाते हैं। अनलासुर का अंत हो जाता है, लेकिन गणेश जी के पेट में बहुत जलन होने लगती है। इस जलन को ठीक करने के लिए सभी देवता और ऋषि-मुनि उपचार खोजने में लग जाते हैं, लेकिन किसी भी उपचार से श्री गणेश जी के पेट की जलन कम नहीं होती।

तब कश्यप ऋषि दूर्वा की 21 गांठ खाने के लिए गणेश जी को देते हैं। गणेश जी को दूर्वा के सेवन से आराम मिलता है और उनके पेट की जलन शांत हो जाती है। इससे खुश होकर गणेश जी कहते हैं कि आज के बाद जो कोई भी मुझे दूर्वा चढ़ाएगा, मैं उसकी सारी मनोकामनाएं पूरी करूंगा।

All the gods were very afraid of him. When the sins of Analasur increased a lot, then all the gods reached Lord Shiva. Shiv ji said that only Ganesh ji can destroy Analasur.

Hearing these words of Lord Shiva, all the deities reached to Shri Ganesh ji. Everyone stood in front of Ganesh ji with folded hands and said, O Lord! Save us from this ruthless monster. Seeing such pitiable condition of the deities, Lord Ganesha agreed to help them.

After this incident, a fierce battle takes place between Analasur and Shri Ganesh ji. In anger, Shri Ganesh swallows Analasur. Analasur comes to an end, but Ganesha's stomach starts feeling very jealous. To cure this burning sensation, all the deities and sages start searching for remedies, but none of the remedies reduce the burning sensation in the stomach of Shri Ganesha.

Then Kashyap Rishi gives 21 lumps of Durva to Ganesha to eat. Ganesh ji gets relief from the consumption of Durva and the burning sensation in his stomach calms down. Pleased with this, Ganesha says that from today onwards whoever offers Durva to me, I will fulfill all his wishes.
