भगवान विष्णु का नृसिंह अवतार
भगवान विष्णु ने नृसिंह अवतार लेकर दैत्यों के राजा हिरण्यकशिपु का वध किया था। इस अवतार की कथा इस प्रकार है- धर्म ग्रंथों के अनुसार दैत्यों का राजा हिरण्यकशिपु स्वयं को भगवान से भी अधिक बलवान मानता था। उसे मनुष्य, देवता, पक्षी, पशु, न दिन में, न रात में, न धरती पर, न आकाश में, न अस्त्र से, न शस्त्र से मरने का वरदान प्राप्त था। उसके राज में जो भी भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करता था उसको दंड दिया जाता था। उसके पुत्र का नाम प्रह्लाद था। प्रह्लाद बचपन से ही भगवान विष्णु का परम भक्त था। यह बात जब हिरण्यकशिपु का पता चली तो वह बहुत क्रोधित हुआ और प्रह्लाद को समझाने का प्रयास किया, लेकिन फिर भी जब प्रह्लाद नहीं माना तो हिरण्यकशिपु ने उसे मृत्युदंड दे दिया।

हर बार भगवान विष्णु के चमत्कार से वह बच गया। हिरण्यकशिपु की बहन होलिका, जिसे अग्नि से न जलने का वरदान प्राप्त था, वह प्रह्लाद को लेकर धधकती हुई अग्नि में बैठ गई। तब भी भगवान विष्णु की कृपा से प्रह्लाद बच गया और होलिका जल गई। जब हिरण्यकशिपु स्वयं प्रह्लाद को मारने ही वाला था तब भगवान विष्णु नृसिंह का अवतार लेकर खंबे से प्रकट हुए और उन्होंने अपने नाखूनों से हिरण्यकशिपु का वध कर दिया।

The story of this incarnation is as follows- According to religious texts, Hiranyakashipu, the king of demons, considered himself stronger than God. He had the boon of killing man, deity, bird, animal, neither in day, nor in night, nor on earth, nor in sky, nor by weapon, nor by weapon. During his reign, whoever worshiped Lord Vishnu was punished. His son's name was Prahlad. Prahlad was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu since childhood. When Hiranyakashipu came to know about this, he became very angry and tried to convince Prahlad, but still when Prahlad did not agree, Hiranyakashipu gave him death sentence.

He was saved every time by the miracle of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu's sister Holika, who was blessed with the boon of not being burnt by fire, took Prahlad and sat in the blazing fire. Even then, by the grace of Lord Vishnu, Prahlad was saved and Holika got burnt. When Hiranyakashipu himself was about to kill Prahlad, Lord Vishnu appeared from the pillar in the form of Narasimha and killed Hiranyakashipu with his nails.
