वीर बर्बरीक कैसे बने हारे के सहारे बाबा श्याम
महाभारत काल में लगभग साढ़े पांच हजार वर्ष पहले एक महान आत्मा का अवतरण हुआ जिसे हम भीम पौत्र बर्बरीक के नाम से जानते हैं महासागर संगम स्थित गुप्त क्षेत्र में नवदुर्गाओं की सात्विक और निष्काम तपस्या कर बर्बरीक ने दिव्य बल और तीन तीर व धनुष प्राप्त किए।
खाटू श्याम को अर्जी लगाने वाला भजन: डंके की चोट पे
कुछ वर्ष उपरांत कुरुक्षेत्र में उपलब्ध नामक स्थान पर युद्ध के लिए कौरव और पांडवों की सेनाएं एकत्रित हुई। युद्ध का शंखनाद होने ही वाला था कि यह वृतांत बर्बरीक को ज्ञात हुआ और उन्होंने माता का आशीर्वाद ले युद्ध भूमि की तरफ प्रस्थान किया।
उनका इरादा था कि युद्ध में जो भी हारेगा उसकी सहायता करूंगा। भगवान श्री कृष्ण को जब यह वृतांत ज्ञात हुआ तो उन्होंने सोचा कि ऐसी स्थिति में युद्ध कभी समाप्त नहीं होने वाला। अतः उन्होंने ब्राह्मण का वेश धारण कर बर्बरीक का मार्ग रोककर उनसे पूछा कि आप कहां प्रस्थान कर रहे हैं।
श्याम जी के इस भजन से मिलती है कष्टों से मुक्ति: कहना मत श्याम किसी से
बर्बरीक ने अपना ध्येय बताया कि वह कुरुक्षेत्र जाकर अपना कर्तव्यनिर्वाह करेंगे और इस पर ब्राह्मण रूप में श्री कृष्ण ने उन्हें अपना कौशल दिखाने को कहा। बर्बरीक ने एक ही तीर से पेड़ के सभी पत्तों को भेद दिया सिवाय एक पत्ते के जो श्री कृष्ण ने अपने पैर के नीचे दबाया हुआ था
बर्बरीक ने ब्राह्मण रूपी श्री कृष्ण से प्रार्थना की कि वह अपना पैर पत्ते के ऊपर से हटाए वरन् आपका पैर घायल हो सकता है। श्री कृष्ण ने अपना पैर हटा लिया व बर्बरीक से एक वरदान मांगा। बर्बरीक ने कहा हे यजमान आप जो चाहे मांग सकते हैं मैं वचन का पूर्ण पालन करूंगा।
लखदातार श्याम जी का अद्भुत भजन: नैन तेरे मोटे मोटे
ब्राह्मण रूपी श्री कृष्ण ने शीश दान मांगा। यह सुनकर बर्बरीक तनिक भी विचलित नहीं हुए परंतु उन्होंने श्री कृष्ण को अपने वास्तविक रूप में दर्शन देने की बात की क्योंकि कोई भी साधारण व्यक्ति यह दान नहीं मांग सकता। तब श्री कृष्ण अपने वास्तविक रूप में प्रकट हुए।
उन्होंने महाबली, त्यागी, तपस्वी वीर | बर्बरीक का मस्तक रणचंडिका को भेंट करने के लिए मांगा और साथ ही वरदान दिया कि कलयुग में तुम मेरे नाम से जाने जाओगे। मेरी ही शक्ति तुम 'में निहित होगी। देवगण तुम्हारे मस्तक की पूजा करेंगे जब तक यह पृथ्वी, नक्षत्र चंद्रमा तथा सूर्य रहेंगे तब तक तुम लोगों के द्वारा मेरे श्री श्याम रूप में पूजनीय रहोगे ।

मस्तक को अमृत से सींचा और अजर अमर कर दिया। मस्तक ने संपूर्ण महाभारत का युद्ध देखा एवं युद्ध के निर्णायक भी रहे। युद्ध के बाद महाबली बर्बरीक कृष्ण से आशीर्वाद लेकर अंतध्यान हो गए।

He intended to help whoever was defeated in the war. When Lord Shri Krishna came to know this story, he thought that in such a situation the war would never end. So, disguised as a Brahmin, he stopped Barbarik's way and asked him where you were leaving.

Barbarik told his aim that he would go to Kurukshetra and fulfill his duty and on this Shri Krishna in the form of a Brahmin asked him to show his skills. Barbarik pierced all the leaves of the tree with a single arrow except one which was pressed under the feet of Shri Krishna.
Barbarik prayed to Shri Krishna in the form of a Brahmin to remove his foot from the top of the leaf, otherwise your foot may be injured. Shri Krishna removed his leg and asked Barbarik for a boon. Barbarik said, O host, you can ask for whatever you want, I will follow the promise completely.

Shri Krishna in the form of Brahmin asked for donation of head. Hearing this, Barbaric did not get upset at all, but he talked about giving darshan to Shri Krishna in his real form because no ordinary person can ask for this donation. Then Shri Krishna appeared in his real form.
He was Mahabali, Tyagi, Tapasvi Veer. Asked for Barbarik's head to present to Ranchandika and also gave a boon that you will be known by my name in Kalyug. My power will be vested in you. Gods will worship your head as long as this earth, stars, moon and sun remain, till then you will be worshiped by people in my Shri Shyam form.

Irrigated the head with nectar and made it immortal. Mastak saw the war of the entire Mahabharata and was also the judge of the war. After the war, Mahabali Barbarik passed away after taking blessings from Krishna.
