जब बजरंगबली ने सूर्य को निगल लिया
बाल्यावस्था में एक बार माता अंजनि बजरंगबली को सुलाकर अन्य कामों में व्यस्त हो गई। कुछ देर बाद जब बाल हनुमान की आँख खुली तब उन्हें प्रचंड भूख की अनुभूति हुई।
तभी उन्होंने आकाशमण्डल में सूर्य को देखा और उसे कोई बड़ा सा लाल फल जानकर उसे खाने की अभिलाषा लेकर बड़े वेग से आकाश की ओर उछले।

कुछ ही देर में वे सूर्यमण्डल में पहुँच गए और सूर्य को निगलने बढ़े तभी ठीक उसी समय सूर्य ग्रहण का भी समय हो रहा था और सूर्य को ग्रसने के लिए राहु भी समीप आ रहा था।
राहु को मुँह खोले सूर्य की और बढ़ते देखकर बाल हनुमान ने सोचा कि ये मेरा फल छीनना चाहता है तो उन्होंने राहु को वहाँ से भगा दिया।

भयभीत राहु इंद्र के दरबार में पहुँचे और उनसे विनती की कि हे प्रभु, संसार के नियम के अनुसार मैं ग्रहण काल में सूर्य को ग्रसित करने जा रहा था पर मेरा मार्ग एक शक्तिशाली वानर बालक ने रोक दिया कृपया आप उसे दंड दें।
ये सुनकर इंद्र कुपित हो गए और तुरंत सूर्यलोक पहुँचे, वहां उन्होंने बिना सोचे समझे बालक हनुमान को लक्ष्य करके वज्र का भीषण प्रहार कर दिया।

वज्र के प्रहार से बाल हनुमान मूर्छित होकर पृथ्वी पर आ गिरे और उनकी ठुड्डी टेढ़ी हो गई।
जब पवन देवता को इस बात की जानकारी हुई तो वे बहुत क्रोधित हुए क्योंकि पवनदेव के आशीर्वाद से ही महावीर हनुमान का जन्म हुआ था। उन्होंने अपनी शक्ति से पुरे संसार में वायु के प्रवाह को रोक दिया ।

उन्होंने पवनदेव की प्रसन्नता के लिए बाल हनुमान को पहले जैसा कर दिया और साथ ही बहुत सारे वरदान भी दिए जिससे बालक हनुमान और भी ज्यादा शक्तिशाली हो गए। पर इन सबमें वज्र के चोट से उनकी ठुड्ढी टेढ़ी हो गई जिसके कारण उनका एक नाम हनुमान पड़ा।

Child Hanuman fainted and fell on the earth due to the strike of Vajra and his chin became crooked.
