कैसे मिली भगवान शिव को उनकी तीसरी आँख?

जैसे ही पार्वती जी ने भगवान शिव की आंखों को ढका, वैसे ही पूरी सृष्टि में अंधेरा छा गया। सभी लोग अंधेरे से घबरा उठे। शिव जी से लोगों की यह हालत छुप नहीं सकी और उन्होंने अपने मस्तक पर एक आंख उत्पन्न कर ली। भगवान शिव की तीसरी आंख खुलते ही सारे लोकों में उजाला हो गया। तब से शिव जी की तीसरी आंख को प्रकाश और ऊर्जा का प्रतीक माना जाने लगा।
भगवान शिव इस घटना के बाद पार्वती जी को बताते हैं कि उनकी दो आंखे पूरी सृष्टि की पालनहार हैं और तीसरी आंख प्रलय का कारण। शास्त्रों में भी कहा गया है कि जब भी भगवान शिव अपनी तीसरी आंख खोलेंगे, तब संसार को विनाश का सामना करना होगा।
