पूजा के दौरान फूलों का विशेष महत्व होता है। हर देवी - देवता को एक खास तरह का फूल पसंद होता है। इसलिए नवरात्रि में मां दुर्गा की पूजा करते समय आपको इन बातों का ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि मां को कौन सा फूल सबसे ज्यादा पसंद है (favourite flower)। इसके अलावा कुछ फूल ऐसे भी होते हैं जो देवी मां को बिल्कुल भी पसंद नहीं होते हैं। ज्योतिष शास्त्र (astrology) के अनुसार अपवित्र स्थानों पर उगने वाले फूल, जिनकी पंखुड़ियां बिखरी हुई हैं, तेज गंध वाले फूल, सुगंधित फूल, जमीन पर गिरे हुए फूल- ऐसे फूल गलती से भी देवी मां को नहीं चढ़ाएं, वरना नाराज़ हो जाएंगी देवी।
इन नौ फूलों को नौ दुर्गा को अर्पित करें (Offer these nine flowers to nine Durga)
1. नवरात्रि (Navratri) के पहले दिन मां दुर्गा के शैलपुत्री (Shailputri) स्वरूप की पूजा की जाती है. इस दिन माता को गुड़हल का फूल (hibiscus flower) या सफेद कनेर (white kaner) का फूल दोनों को अर्पित किया जाता है।
2. मां का दूसरा रूप ब्रह्मचारिणी (Brahmacharini) का है और उन्हें गुलदाउदी (chrysanthemum) के फूल और बरगद के पेड़ (banyan trees) दोनों पसंद हैं। मां को ये फूल चढ़ाने से जीवन में सफलता मिलती है।
3. नवरात्रि के तीसरे दिन मां चंद्रघंटा (Chandraghanta) की पूजा की जाती है और इस दिन आप मां दुर्गा को कमल का फूल (lotus flower) और शंखपुष्पी (Shankhpushpi) का फूल चढ़ा सकते हैं. ऐसा करने से घर में खुशियां आती हैं।
4. मां दुर्गा का चौथा रूप देवी कुष्मांडा (Kushmanda) का है, जिन्हें चमेली के फूल (jasmine flowers) या पीले रंग का कोई भी फूल चढ़ाने से देवी मां प्रसन्न होती हैं और उन्हें अच्छे स्वास्थ्य का आशीर्वाद देती हैं।
5. नवरात्रि के पांचवें दिन मां स्कंदमाता (Skandmata) की पूजा की जाती है और उन्हें भी पीले फूल (loves yellow flowers) प्रिय होते हैं और इन फूलों को चढ़ाने से मां प्रसन्न होती हैं.
6. माता का छठा रूप कात्यायनी (Katyayani) का है, जिन्हें विशेष रूप से गेंदे के फूल और बेर के फूल (marigold flowers and plum flowers) पसंद हैं और इन फूलों को चढ़ाने से माता का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त होता है।
7. नवरात्रि के सातवें दिन मां के कालरात्रि (Kalratri) स्वरूप की पूजा की जाती है। नीले रंग का कृष्ण कमल का फूल (Krishna lotus flower) माता को अधिक प्रिय होता है।
8. आठवें दिन मां के महागौरी (Mahagauri) स्वरूप की पूजा की जाती है। मोगरा का फूल देवी गौरी को विशेष रूप से प्रिय होता है और इस फूल को चढ़ाने से देवी मां प्रसन्न होती हैं।
9. देवी मां का नौवां रूप मां सिद्धिदात्री (Siddhidatri) का है, माँ को चंपा (Champa) और गुड़हल (hibiscus flower) दोनों फूलों विशेष रूप से प्रिय हैं।

Offer these nine flowers to nine Durga

8. On the eighth day, the Mahagauri form of the mother is worshipped. The flower of Mogra is especially dear to Goddess Gauri and the Goddess is pleased by offering this flower.
