महाभारत की कहानी: द्रौपदी का विवाह
पांचाल नामक नगर में राजा द्रुपद का राज हुआ करता था। राजा द्रुपद की एक बेटी थी, जिसका नाम द्रौपदी था। द्रौपदी बहुत ही सुंदर और सुशील कन्या थी। जब वह विवाह योग्य हो गई, तो राजा द्रुपद ने उसके विवाह के लिए स्वयंवर रखने का निर्णय लिया।
इस दौरान, पांडव मुनि का भेस धारण करके पांचाल से कुछ कोस दूर एक गांव में रह रहे थे। जब उन तक द्रौपदी के स्वयंवर की सूचना पहुंची, तो वेदव्यास के आदेश पर उन्होंने पांचाल जाकर स्वयंवर में भाग लेने का निर्णय लिया। पांचाल जाते समय उन्हें रास्ते में धौम्य नामक एक ब्राह्मण मिला, जिसके साथ वो ब्राह्मण का भेस धारण करके स्वयंवर में पहुंचे।

स्वयंवर में दूर-दूर से बड़े-बड़े राजा महाराजा और राजकुमार पधारे हुए थे। वहां पहुंच कर पांडवों ने ब्राह्मणों के बीच अपना स्थान ग्रहण कर लिया। उस सभा में श्रीकृष्ण भी अपने बड़े भाई बलराम और गणमान्य यदुवंशियों के साथ बैठे हुए थे। सभा की एक ओर सभी कौरव भी विराजमान थे। कुछ देर बाद सभा में राजा द्रुपद पधारे और उन्होंने स्वयंवर के लिए पधारे सभी मेहमनाें का स्वागत किया। अब सब की आंखें राजकुमारी द्रौपदी का इंतजार कर रही थीं। सब यही सोच रहे थे कि राजकुमारी उन्हीं को अपना पति चुनेगी।
कुछ समय बाद सभी का इंतजार खत्म हुआ और राजकुमारी द्रौपदी एक सुंदर-सी परी की तरह सभा में पधारी। उन्हें देखकर सभी मंत्रमुग्ध हो गए। राजकुमारी ने सभा के बीच से गुजरते हुए, अपने पिता के सिंहासन के समीप अपना स्थान ग्रहण कर लिया।

इसके बाद सभी सभागणों को संबोधित करते हुए राजा द्रुपद ने कहा, “मैं राजा द्रुपद, इस स्वयंवर में आप सभी मेहमानों का स्वागत करता है। मैं इस बात से पूरी तरह परिचित हूं कि आप सभी यहां मेरी पुत्री द्रौपदी से विवाह करने आए हैं, लेकिन इस स्वयंवर की एक शर्त है। आप सभी को सभा के बीचों-बीच एक स्तंभ पर गोल घूमती हुई नकली मछली लटकती दिख रही होगी। उस मछली के ठीक नीचे, धरती पर एक तेल का पात्र रखा है, जिसमें उस मछली का प्रतिबिंब दिख रहा है। स्वयंवर की शर्त यह है कि जो भी धनुर्धारी प्रतिबिंब में देखकर, मछली की आंख पर निशाना लगा देगा, वह इस स्वयंवर का विजयता होगा और उसी से द्रौपदी का विवाह होगा।”
राजा द्रुपद की यह बात सुन कर, सभी राजा बारी-बारी आकर, मछली पर निशाना साधने का प्रयास करने लगे लेकिन कोई सफल नहीं हो पाया। असफल व्यक्तियों में शिशुपाल, दुशासन, दुर्योधन और अन्य कौरवों का भी नाम शामिल था। अंत में पांडवों की बारी आई। उनकी ओर से अर्जुन ने मछली की आंख पर निशाना लगाने के लिए धनुष उठाया और एक ही बार में तीर निशाने पर लगा दिया। यह देखकर सब आश्चर्यचकित हो गए कि एक ब्राह्मण ने इतना सटीक निशाना लगा दिया।

इसके बाद अपने पिता की आज्ञा से द्रौपदी आगे बढ़ी और अर्जुन के गले में वरमाल डाल दी और दोनों का विवाह संपन्न हुआ।

King Drupad used to rule in a city named Panchal. King Drupada had a daughter named Draupadi. Draupadi was a very beautiful and gentle girl. When she became marriageable, King Drupada decided to hold a Swayamvara for her marriage.
Meanwhile, the Pandavas were living in a village a few miles away from Panchal, disguised as sages. When the information about Draupadi's Swayamvara reached him, he decided to go to Panchal and participate in the Swayamvara on the orders of Vedvyas. On his way to Panchal, he met a Brahmin named Dhaumya, with whom he disguised himself as a Brahmin and reached Swayamvara.

In Swayamvar, big kings and princes had come from far and wide. After reaching there, the Pandavas took their place among the Brahmins. Shri Krishna was also sitting in that assembly along with his elder brother Balram and the eminent Yaduvanshis. All the Kauravas were also sitting on one side of the assembly. After some time King Drupad came to the meeting and he welcomed all the guests who had come for Swayamvar. Now everyone's eyes were waiting for Princess Draupadi. Everyone was thinking that the princess would choose him as her husband.
After some time everyone's wait was over and Princess Draupadi appeared in the assembly like a beautiful fairy. Everyone was mesmerized seeing him. The princess passed through the assembly, taking her place near her father's throne.

After this, addressing all the gathering, King Drupada said, “I, King Drupada, welcome all the guests to this Swayamvara. I am fully aware that all of you have come here to marry my daughter Draupadi, but this Swayamvara has a condition. All of you must have seen a fake fish hanging on a pole in the middle of the assembly. Just below that fish, an oil vessel is placed on the ground, In which the reflection of that fish is visible. The condition of the Swayamvara is that whoever sees in the reflection, the archer will aim at the eye of the fish, he will be the winner of this Swayamvara and Draupadi will be married to him.
Hearing these words of King Drupada, all the kings came one by one and started trying to target the fish but none could succeed. The names of Shishupala, Dushasana, Duryodhana and other Kauravas were also included in the unsuccessful persons. At last it was the turn of the Pandavas. Arjuna on his behalf raised the bow to aim at the eye of the fish and shot the arrow in one go. Everyone was surprised to see that a Brahmin hit such an accurate target.

After this, Draupadi went ahead with the permission of her father and put a garland around Arjuna's neck and both of them got married.
