महाकालेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग मंदिर, उज्जैन
उज्जयिनी के श्री महाकालेश्वर भारत में बारह प्रसिद्ध ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक हैं। महाकालेश्वर मंदिर की महिमा का विभिन्न पुराणों में विशद वर्णन किया गया है। कालिदास से शुरू करते हुए, कई संस्कृत कवियों ने इस मंदिर को भावनात्मक रूप से समृद्ध किया है। उज्जैन भारतीय समय की गणना के लिए केंद्रीय बिंदु हुआ करता था और महाकाल को उज्जैन का विशिष्ट पीठासीन देवता माना जाता था। समय के देवता, शिव अपने सभी वैभव में, उज्जैन में शाश्वत शासन करते हैं।

महाकालेश्वर की मूर्ति दक्षिणमुखी होने के कारण दक्षिणामूर्ति मानी जाती है। यह एक अनूठी विशेषता है, जिसे तांत्रिक परंपरा द्वारा केवल 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से महाकालेश्वर में पाया जाता है। महाकाल मंदिर के ऊपर गर्भगृह में ओंकारेश्वर शिव की मूर्ति प्रतिष्ठित है। गर्भगृह के पश्चिम, उत्तर और पूर्व में गणेश, पार्वती और कार्तिकेय के चित्र स्थापित हैं। दक्षिण में नंदी की प्रतिमा है। तीसरी मंजिल पर नागचंद्रेश्वर की मूर्ति केवल नागपंचमी के दिन दर्शन के लिए खुली होती है। महाशिवरात्रि के दिन, मंदिर के पास एक विशाल मेला लगता है, और रात में पूजा होती है।
Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Mandir, Ujjain
Shri Mahakaleshwar of Ujjain is one of the twelve famous Jyotirlingas in India. The glory of Mahakaleshwar temple has been elaborately described in various Puranas. Starting from Kalidasa, many Sanskrit poets have enriched this temple emotionally. Ujjain used to be the central point for the calculation of Indian time and Mahakala was considered the exclusive presiding deity of Ujjain. The god of time, Shiva in all his splendor, reigns eternally in Ujjain.
The temple of Mahakaleshwar, its spire soaring into the sky, an imposing façade against the sky, evokes primordial awe and reverence with its magnificence. Mahakal dominates the life of the city and its people, even in the midst of the busy routine of modern day engagements, and provides an unbreakable link with past traditions.One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India, the lingam at Mahakal, is believed to derive Shakti (power) from within itself, as against other images and lingas, which are ceremoniously installed and chanted. Bhagwan Shree Ram Ji Ke 9 Sabse Prasiddh Mandir
The idol of Mahakaleshwar is considered as Dakshinamurti because it is south facing. This is a unique feature, found only in Mahakaleshwar among the 12 Jyotirlingas by the Tantric tradition. The idol of Omkareshwar Shiva is enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum above the Mahakal temple. Images of Ganesha, Parvati and Kartikeya are installed in the west, north and east of the sanctum. There is a statue of Nandi in the south. The idol of Nagachandreshwar on the third floor is open for darshan only on the day of Nagpanchami. On the day of Mahashivratri, a huge fair is held near the temple, and worship takes place through the night.
