महर्षि दुर्वासा ने इन्द्र को लक्ष्मीहीन होने का श्राप क्यों दिया था?
एक कथा के अनुसार इन्द्र ने अंहकारवश वैजयंतीमाला का अपमान किया था, परिणामस्वरूप महालक्ष्मी उनसे रुष्ट हो गईं और उन्हें दर-दर भटकना पड़ा था।
देवराज इन्द्र अपने हाथी ऐरावत पर भ्रमण कर रहे थे। मार्ग में उनकी भेंट महर्षि दुर्वासा से हुई। उन्होंने इन्द्र को अपने गले से पुष्पमाला उतारकर भेंटस्वरूप दे दी। इन्द्र ने अभिमानवश उस पुष्पमाला को ऐरावत के गले में डाल दिया और ऐरावत ने उसे गले से उतारकर अपने पैरों तले रौंद डाला। अपने द्वारा दी हुई भेंट का अपमान देखकर महर्षि दुर्वासा को बहुत क्रोध आया। उन्होंने इन्द्र को लक्ष्मीहीन होने का श्राप दे दिया।
क्यों श्री हनुमान जी ने चीरा अपना सीना ?
महर्षि दुर्वासा के श्राप के प्रभाव से लक्ष्मीहीन इन्द्र दैत्यों के राजा बलि से युद्ध में हार गए जिसके परिणास्वरूप राजा बलि ने तीनों लोकों पर अपना आधिपत्य स्थापित कर लिया। हताश और निराश हुए देवता ब्रह्माजी को साथ लेकर श्रीहरि के आश्रय में गए और उनसे अपना स्वर्गलोक वापस पाने के लिए प्रार्थना करने लगे।
श्रीहरि ने कहा कि आप सभी देवतागण दैत्यों से सुलह कर लें और उनका सहयोग पाकर मंदराचल को मथानी तथा वासुकि नाग को रस्सी बनाकर क्षीरसागर का मंथन करें। समुद्र मंथन से जो अमृत प्राप्त होगा उसे पिलाकर मैं आप सभी देवताओं को अजर-अमर कर दूंगा तत्पश्चात ही देवता, दैत्यों का विनाश करके पुन: स्वर्ग का आधिपत्य पा सकेंगे|
क्या है रावण के दस सिर होने का रहस्य
इन्द्र दैत्यों के राजा बलि के पास गए और उनके समक्ष समुद्र मंथन का प्रस्ताव रखा। अमृत के लालच में आकर दैत्य, देवताओं के साथ मिल गए। देवताओं और दैत्यों ने अपनी पूरी शक्ति लगाकर मंदराचल पर्वत को उठाकर समुद्र तट पर लेकर जाने की चेष्टा की, परंतु अशक्त रहे। सभी मिलकर श्रीहरि का ध्यान करने लगे। भक्तों की पुकार पर श्रीहरि चले आए।
उन्होंने क्रीड़ा करना आरंभ किया और भारी मंदराचल पर्वत को उठाकर गरूड़ पर स्थापित किया एवं पलभर में क्षीरसागर के तट पर पहुंचा दिया। मंदराचल को मथानी एवं वासुकि नाग की रस्सी बनाकर समुद्र मंथन का शुभ कार्य आरंभ हुआ। श्रीहरि की नजर मथानी पर पड़ी, जो कि अंदर की ओर धंसती चली जा रही थी। यह देखकर श्रीहरि ने स्वयं कच्छप रूप में मंदराचल को मौलिकता प्रदान की।

शास्त्रों में वर्णित है कि समुद्र मंथन में सबसे पहले विष निकला जिसकी उग्र लपटों से सभी प्राणियों के प्राण संकट में पड़ गए। इसे भगवान शिव ने अपने कंठ में धारण किया और उसे अपने ऊपर हावी नहीं होने दिया जिससे उनका कंठ नीला हो गया और वे नीलकंठ कहलाए।
तत्पश्चात समुद्र मंथन से लक्ष्मी, कौस्तुभ, पारिजात, सुरा, धन्वंतरि, चन्द्रमा, पुष्पक, ऐरावत, पाञ्चजन्य, शंख, रम्भा, कामधेनु, उच्चै:श्रवा और अंत में अमृत कुंभ निकला जिसे लेकर धन्वंतरिजी आए। उनके हाथों से अमृत कलश छीनकर दैत्य भागने लगे ताकि देवताओं से पूर्व अमृतपान करके वे अमर हो जाएं। दैत्यों के बीच कलश के लिए झगड़ा शुरू हो गया और देवता हताश खड़े थे।
गिलहरी की पीठ पर धारियां होने का क्या कारण है?
श्रीहरि अति सुंदर नारी रूप धारण करके देवता और दानवों के बीच पहुंच गए। इनके रूप पर मोहित होकर दानवों ने अमृत का कलश इन्हें सौंप दिया। मोहिनी रूपधारी भगवान ने कहा कि मैं जैसे भी विभाजन का कार्य करूं, चाहे वह उचित हो या अनुचित, तुम लोग बीच में बाधा उत्पन्न न करने का वचन दो तभी मैं इस काम को करूंगी।
सभी ने मोहिनीरूपी भगवान की बात मान ली। देवता और दैत्य अलग-अलग पंक्तियों में बैठ गए। मोहिनी रूप धारण करके श्रीहरि ने सारा अमृत देवताओं को पिला दिया जिससे देवता अमर हो गए और उन्हें अपना स्वर्ग वापस मिल गया।

Shri Hari said that all of you gods should make peace with the demons and after getting their cooperation, churn the Kshirsagar by making Mandarachal a churn and Vasuki the snake as a rope. By drinking the nectar that will be obtained from the churning of the ocean, I will make all you gods immortal, only after that the gods will be able to destroy the demons and regain the dominion of heaven.

Indra went to Bali, the king of the demons, and offered him the churning of the ocean. Due to the greed of nectar, the demons mixed with the gods. He started playing and lifted the heavy Mandarachal mountain and installed it on Garuda and in a moment brought it to the banks of Kshirsagar. The auspicious task of churning the ocean started by making Mandarachal a churner and Vasuki a rope. Shri Hari's eyes fell on the churn, which was going on sinking inwards. Seeing this, Shri Hari himself gave originality to Mandarachal in the form of a turtle.

The demons started running away after snatching the pot of nectar from their hands so that they could become immortal by drinking nectar before the gods. A fight broke out between the demons for the urn and the gods stood desperate.

Everyone accepted the word of God in the form of Mohini. The gods and demons sat in different rows. Taking the form of Mohini, Sri Hari fed all the nectar to the gods, which made the gods immortal and they got their heaven back.
