मीनाक्षी अम्मन मंदिर वास्तुकला
पूरा मंदिर मदुरै में 14 एकड़ के क्षेत्र में फैला हुआ है। मंदिर में विशाल दीवारें हैं जो आक्रमणों के जवाब में बनाई गई थीं। ऊपर से देखने पर मंदिर की संरचना मंडल का प्रतिनिधित्व करती है। आप मंदिर में विभिन्न मंदिर पा सकते हैं और दो मुख्य मंदिर सुंदरेश्वर और मीनाक्षी को समर्पित हैं। मंदिर में पोर्थमराय कुलम नामक एक पवित्र तालाब भी है, तालाब के केंद्र में एक सुनहरे कमल की संरचना का प्रभुत्व है।
श्री लक्ष्मी नारायण मंदिर (बिड़ला मंदिर)
मंदिर में चार मुख्य विशाल द्वार (गोपुरम) हैं जो देखने में एक जैसे हैं। चार 'गोपुरम' के अलावा, मंदिर में कई अन्य 'गोपुरम' हैं, जो विभिन्न मंदिरों के प्रवेश द्वार के रूप में काम करते हैं। मंदिर में कुल 14 विशाल द्वार हैं। प्रत्येक एक बहु-मंजिला संरचना है जिसमें हजारों पौराणिक कहानियों के साथ-साथ कई अन्य मूर्तियां भी हैं।
मीनाक्षी अम्मन मंदिर पौराणिक कथा
किंवदंती के अनुसार, मीनाक्षी एक 'यज्ञ' (पवित्र अग्नि) से तीन साल की बच्ची के रूप में प्रकट हुई थी। मलयध्वज पांड्या नाम के एक राजा और उनकी पत्नी कंचनमलाई ने 'यज्ञ' किया। क्योंकि शाही जोड़े के पास एक संतान की कमी थी, राजा ने भगवान शिव से प्रार्थना की, उनसे उन्हें एक पुत्र देने की भीख मांगी। हालाँकि, एक तिहरे स्तन वाली लड़की पवित्र अग्नि से निकली, जो उनके लिए बहुत निराशाजनक थी। जब मलयाध्वज और उनकी पत्नी ने लड़की के असामान्य रूप के बारे में चिंता व्यक्त की, तो एक दिव्य आवाज ने उन्हें इसके बारे में चिंता न करने का निर्देश दिया। उन्हें यह भी बताया गया कि एक बार जब लड़की अपने होने वाले पति से मिल जाएगी, तो उसका तीसरा स्तन गायब हो जाएगा। राहत प्राप्त राजा ने उसे मीनाक्षी नाम दिया और नियत समय में उसे अपने उत्तराधिकारी के रूप में ताज पहनाया।
मीनाक्षी ने मदुरै शहर पर शासन किया और यह भी कहा कि उसने इंद्र लोक पर भी कब्जा कर लिया है। शिव और मीनाक्षी मदुरै लौट आए जहां उनकी शादी हुई। जैसे ही पार्वती ने मीनाक्षी का रूप धारण किया, पार्वती के भाई भगवान विष्णु ने उन्हें भगवान शिव को सौंप दिया। आज विवाह समारोह मनाया जाता है जिसे तिरुकल्याणम के नाम से जाना जाता है।

The entire temple is spread over an area of 14 acres in Madurai. The temple has massive walls that were built in response to invasions. Viewed from above, the structure of the temple represents a mandala. You can find various shrines in the temple and the two main shrines are dedicated to Sundareswarar and Meenakshi. The temple also houses a holy pond called Porthamaraya Kulam, the center of the pond is dominated by a golden lotus structure.
Shri Laxmi Narayan Temple (Birla Mandir)
The temple has four main huge gateways (gopurams) which are similar in appearance. Apart from the four 'gopurams', the temple has several other 'gopurams', which serve as entrances to the various shrines. There are a total of 14 huge gates in the temple. Each is a multi-storied structure containing thousands of mythological stories as well as many other sculptures.
Meenakshi Amman Temple Mythology
According to legend, Meenakshi appeared as a three-year-old girl from a 'Yajna' (sacred fire). A king named Malayadhwaja Pandya and his wife Kanchanamalai performed a 'yagya'. Because the royal couple lacked a child, the king prayed to Lord Shiva, begging him to give him a son. However, a triple-breasted girl emerged from the sacred fire, much to their dismay.When Malayadhwaja and his wife expressed concern about the unusual appearance of the girl, a divine voice instructed them not to worry about it. They were also told that once the girl met her future husband, her third breast would disappear. The relieved king named her Meenakshi and in due course crowned her as his successor.
Meenakshi ruled the city of Madurai and is also said to have captured Indra Lok as well. Shiva and Meenakshi return to Madurai where they are married. As soon as Parvati assumed the form of Meenakshi, Parvati's brother Lord Vishnu handed her over to Lord Shiva. Today the marriage ceremony is celebrated which is known as Tirukalyanam.
