पद्मिनी एकादशी व्रत कथा
एकादशियों का श्रवण करते हुए अर्जुन ने भगवान श्रीकृष्ण से कहा- ""हे प्रभु! अब आप अधिक (लौंद) मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी के सम्बंध में बताएं इस एकादशी का नाम क्या है तथा इसके व्रत का क्या विधान है? इसमें किस देवता का पूजन किया जाता है और इसके व्रत से किस फल की प्राप्ति होती है? कृपा कर यह सब विस्तारपूर्वक बताएं।""
बाबा खाटू श्याम का सबसे मीठा भजन: उसे आना पड़ेगा खाटू में दुबारा
भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा- ""हे अर्जुन! अधिक (लौंद) मास की एकादशी अनेक पुण्यों को देने वाली है, इसका नाम पद्मिनी है। इस एकादशी के व्रत से मनुष्य विष्णुलोक को जाता है। इस एकादशी के व्रत का विधान मैंने सर्वप्रथम नारदजी से कहा था। यह विधान अनेक पापों को नष्ट करने वाला तथा मुक्ति और भक्ति प्रदान करने वाला है। इसके फल व विधान को ध्यानपूर्वक श्रवण करो-
दशमी वाले दिन व्रत को प्रारंभ करना चाहिए। इस दिन कांसे के पात्र का किसी भी रूप में प्रयोग नहीं करना चाहिए तथा मांस, मसूर, चना, कोदों, शहद, शाक और पराया अन्न इन सब खाद्यों का त्याग कर देना चाहिए। इस दिन हविष्य भोजन करना चाहिए और नमक नहीं खाना चाहिए। दशमी की रात्रि को भूमि पर शयन करना चाहिए और ब्रह्मचर्यपूर्वक रहना चाहिए। एकादशी के दिन प्रातः नित्य क्रिया से निवृत्त होकर दातुन करनी चाहिए और बारह बार कुल्ला करके पुण्य क्षेत्र में जाकर स्नान करना चाहिए। उस समय गोबर, मृत्तिका, तिल, कुश, आमलकी चूर्ण से विधिपूर्वक स्नान करना चाहिए। स्नान करने से पहले शरीर पर मिट्टी लगाते हुए उसी से प्रार्थना करनी चाहिए- 'हे मृत्तिके! मैं तुमको प्रणाम करता हूं। तुम्हारे स्पर्श से मेरा शरीर पवित्र हो। सभी ओषधियों से पैदा हुई और पृथ्वी को पवित्र करने वाली, तुम मुझे शुद्ध करो। ब्रह्मा के थूक से पैदा होने वाली! तुम मेरे शरीर को स्पर्श कर मुझे पवित्र करो। हे शंख-चक्र गदाधारी देवों के देव! पुंडरीकाक्ष! आप मुझे स्नान के लिए आज्ञा दीजिए।'
श्याम बाबा का सबसे बढ़िया भजन: देखे ताज क़ुतुब मीनार
इसके बाद वरुण मंत्र को जपकर पवित्र तीर्थों के अभाव में उनका स्मरण करते हुए किसी तालाब में स्नान करना चाहिए। स्नान करने के उपरांत स्वच्छ और सुंदर वस्त्र धारण करके तथा संध्या, तर्पण करके मंदिर में जाकर प्रभु का पूजन करना चाहिए। स्वर्ण की राधा सहित कृष्ण भगवान की मूर्ति और पार्वती सहित महादेवजी की मूर्ति बनाकर पूजन करें। धान्य के ऊपर मिट्टी या तांबे का कुंभ रखना चाहिए। इस कुंभ को वस्त्र तथा गंध आदि से अलंकृत करके, उसके मुंह पर तांबे, चांदी या सोने का पात्र रखना चाहिए। इस पात्र पर भगवान श्रीहरि की मूर्ति रखकर धूप, दीप, नैवेद्य, पुष्प, केसर आदि से उनका पूजन करना चाहिए। इसके बाद भगवान के सम्मुख नृत्य व गायन आदि करना चाहिए। उस दिन पतित तथा रजस्वला स्त्री को स्पर्श नहीं करना चाहिए। भक्तजनों के साथ प्रभु के सामने पुराण की कथा सुननी चाहिए। अधिक (लौंद) मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की पद्मिनी एकादशी का व्रत निर्जल रहकर करना चाहिए। यदि मनुष्य में निराहार रहने की शक्ति न हो तो उसे जलपान या अल्पाहार से व्रत करना चाहिए। रात्रि में जागरण करके नृत्य तथा गायन करके प्रभु का स्मरण करते रहना चाहिए। प्रति पहर मनुष्य को भगवान श्रीहरि या शंकरजी का पूजन करना चाहिए। पहले पहर में भगवान को नारियल, दूसरे पहर में बिल्वफल, व तीसरे पहर में सीताफल और चौथे पहर में सुपारी, नारंगी अर्पण करना चाहिए। इससे पहले पहर में अग्नि होम का, दूसरे में वाजपेय यज्ञ का, तीसरे में अश्वमेध यज्ञ का और चौथे में राजसूय यज्ञ का फल मिलता है। इस व्रत से बढ़कर संसार में कोई यज्ञ, तप, दान या पुण्य नहीं है। एकादशी का व्रत करने वाले मनुष्य को सभी तीर्थों और यज्ञों का फल प्राप्त हो जाता है।
इस प्रकार से सूर्योदय तक जागरण करना चाहिए और स्नान करके ब्राह्मणों को भोजन कराना चाहिए। सभी पदार्थ भगवान की मूर्ति सहित ब्राह्मणों को देने चाहिए। इस तरह जो मनुष्य विधानपूर्वक प्रभु का पूजन तथा व्रत करते हैं, उनका जन्म सफल हो जाता है और वे इहलोक में अनेक सुखों को भोगकर अंत में विष्णुलोक को जाते हैं ।
मन को मोह लेने वाला भजन: महफ़िल है श्याम आपकी
हे अर्जुन! मैंने तुम्हें एकादशी व्रत का पूरा विधान बता दिया। अब जो पद्मिनी एकादशी का भक्तिपूर्वक व्रत कर चुके हैं, उनकी कथा को कहता हूँ, ध्यानपूर्वक श्रवण करो। यह सुंदर कथा महर्षि पुलस्त्य ने नारदजी से कही थी- एक बार कार्तवीर्य ने रावण को अपने बंदीगृह में बंद कर लिया। उसे महर्षि पुलस्त्य ने कार्तवीर्य से विनय करके छुड़ाया। इस घटना को सुनकर नारदजी ने महर्षि पुलस्त्य से पूछा- 'हे महर्षि! इस मायावी रावण को, जिसने सभी देवताओं सहित इन्द्र को जीत लिया था, कार्तवीर्य ने उसे किस प्रकार जीता? कृपा कर मुझे विस्तारपूर्वक बताए।'
महर्षि पुलस्त्य ने कहा- 'हे नारद! आप पहले कार्तवीर्य की उत्पत्ति की कथा सुनो- त्रेतायुग में महिष्मती नामक नगरी में कार्तवीर्य नाम का एक राजा राज्य करता था। उस राजा की सौ स्त्रियां थीं, उनमें से किसी के भी राज्य का भार संभालने वाला योग्य पुत्र नहीं था। तब राजा ने सम्मानपूर्वक ब्राह्मणों को बुलाया और पुत्र की प्राप्ति के लिए यज्ञ कराए, किंतु सब व्यर्थ रहे। जिस प्रकार दुखी मनुष्य को भोग नीरस मालूम पड़ते हैं, उसी प्रकार राजा को भी अपना राज्य पुत्र बिना दुखमय प्रतीत होता था। अंत में वह तप के द्वारा ही सिद्धियों को प्राप्त जानकर तपस्या करने के लिए वन को चला गया। उसकी स्त्री (राजा हरिश्चन्द्र की पुत्री प्रमदा) वस्त्रालंकारो को त्यागकर अपने पति के साथ गंधमादन पर्वत पर चली गई। उस स्थान पर इन लोगों ने दस हजार वर्ष तक तप किया, किंतु सिद्धि प्राप्त न हो सकी। राजा की देह मात्र हड्डियों का ढांचा मात्र ही रह गई। यह देख प्रमदा ने श्रद्धापूर्वक महासती अनसूया से पूछा- 'मेरे स्वामी को तप करते हुए दस हजार वर्ष व्यतीत हो गए, किंतु अभी तक प्रभु प्रसन्न नहीं हुए हैं, जिससे मुझे पुत्र प्राप्त हो। इसका क्या कारण है?'
खाटू श्याम को अर्जी लगाने वाला भजन: तेरे द्वार खड़ा
प्रमदा की बात सुनकर देवी अनसूया ने कहा- 'अधिक (लौंद) मास जो कि छत्तीस माह बाद आता है, उसमें दो एकादशी होती हैं। इसमें शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी का नाम पद्मिनी और कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी का नाम परम है। इनके जागरण और व्रत करने से ईश्वर तुम्हें अवश्य ही पुत्र देंगे।'
तत्पश्चात देवी अनसूया ने व्रत का विधान बताया। रानी प्रमदा ने देवी अनसूया की बतलाई विधि के अनुसार एकादशी का व्रत और रात्रि में जागरण किया। इससे भगवान विष्णु उस पर बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और वरदान मांगने को कहा। रानी प्रमदा ने कहा- 'प्रभु आप यह वरदान मेरे पति को दीजिए।'
संजय मित्तल का सुपरहिट श्याम भजन: बाबा बहुत बड़ा है
रानी प्रमदा का वचन सुन भगवान विष्णु ने कहा- 'हे रानी प्रमदा! मल मास (लौंद) बहुत प्रिय है। उसमें भी एकादशी तिथि मुझे सबसे अधिक प्रिय है। इस एकादशी का व्रत तथा रात्रि जागरण तुमने विधानपूर्वक किया, इसलिए मैं तुम पर अति प्रसन्न हूं।' इतना कहकर भगवान विष्णु ने राजा से कहा- 'हे राजन! तुम अपना इच्छित वर मांगो, क्योंकि तुम्हारी स्त्री ने मुझे प्रसन्न किया है।'
भगवान की अमृत वाणी सुन राजा ने कहा- 'हे प्रभु! आप मुझे सबसे उत्तम, सबके द्वारा पूजित तथा आपके अतिरिक्त देव, असुर, मनुष्य आदि से अजेय पुत्र दीजिए।'
सबसे ज्यादा सुना जानेवाला भजन: निगेहबाँ
राजा को इच्छित वर देकर प्रभु अंतर्धान हो गए। तदुपरांत दोनों अपने राज्य को वापस आ गए। इन्हीं के यहां समय आने पर कार्तवीर्य उत्पन्न हुए थे। यह भगवान श्रीहरि के अतिरिक्त सबसे अजेय थे। कार्तवीर्य ने रावण को जीत लिया था। यह सब पद्मिनी एकादशी के व्रत का प्रभाव था। इतना वृत्तांत सुनाने के उपरांत महर्षि पुलस्त्य वहां से चले गए।
श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा- ""हे कुंती पुत्र अर्जुन! यह मैंने अधिक (लौंद) मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी का व्रत कहा है। जो मनुष्य इस व्रत को करता है, वह विष्णुलोक को जाता है।""
सूतजी ने कहा- ""हे ऋषिश्रेष्ठो! जो आपने जानना चाहा था, सो मैंने कह दिया। अब आप क्या जानना चाहते हैं? जो मनुष्य इस व्रत कथा को सुनेंगे वे स्वर्गलोक के अधिकारी हो जाएंगे।""
कन्हैया मित्तल का सुपरहिट श्याम भजन: मैं हारा नहीं हूं
कथा-सार
ईश्वर सर्वतः हैं। वे दुष्प्राप्य वस्तुओं को भी देने में समर्थ हैं, परंतु प्रभु को प्रसन्न करके अपनी इच्छित वस्तु प्राप्त करने का मार्ग मनुष्य को जानना चाहिए। पद्मिनी एकादशी प्रभु की प्रिय तिथि है, जप-तप से भी ज्यादा प्रभावशाली इसका व्रत मनुष्य को दुष्प्राप्य वस्तुओं को भी प्राप्त करा देता है।"

First of all, I had told Naradji the method of fasting on this Ekadashi. This law destroys many sins and gives salvation and devotion. Listen carefully to its fruit and law-
Fasting should be started on Dashami day. On this day, bronze utensils should not be used in any form and meat, lentils, gram, pulses, honey, vegetables and foreign food should be discarded. On this day havishy food should be eaten and salt should not be eaten. One should sleep on the ground on the night of Dashami and remain celibate. On the day of Ekadashi, in the morning after retiring from daily activities, teeth should be washed and after rinsing twelve times, one should go to the virtuous area and take a bath. At that time one should bathe methodically with cow dung, clay, sesame, kush, amalaki powder. Before taking bath, while applying mud on the body, one should pray to her - 'O soil! I salute you May my body be purified by your touch. Born of all herbs and purifying the earth, you purify me. Born from the spit of Brahma! You purify me by touching my body. Oh conch-chakra Gadadhari God of Gods! Pundarikaksha! You order me to take a bath.'

After this, after reciting the Varuna mantra, in the absence of holy pilgrimages, one should bathe in a pond remembering them. After taking bath, wearing clean and beautiful clothes and worshiping the Lord in the evening, one should go to the temple and perform tarpan. Make an idol of Lord Krishna along with Radha of gold and worship Mahadevji along with Parvati. An earthen or copper pot should be kept over the grains. This Kumbh should be decorated with clothes and scent etc. and a copper, silver or gold vessel should be placed on its mouth. By placing the idol of Lord Sri Hari on this vessel, he should be worshiped with incense, lamp, naivedya, flowers, saffron etc. After this one should dance and sing in front of God. On that day a degenerate and menstruating woman should not be touched. The story of the Puran should be heard in front of the Lord along with the devotees. The fast of Padmini Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Adhik (Laund) month should be observed without water. If a person does not have the power to remain fasting, then he should fast with refreshments or snacks. Keeping awake at night, dancing and singing should keep remembering the Lord. Man should worship Lord Sri Hari or Shankarji every hour. Coconut should be offered to God in the first hour, Bilva fruit in the second hour, and Sita fruit in the third hour and betel nut, orange in the fourth hour. Before this one gets the result of Agni Homa in the second half, Vajpayee Yagya in the second, Ashwamedh Yagya in the third and Rajasuya Yagya in the fourth. There is no sacrifice, penance, charity or virtue in the world greater than this fast. The person who fasts on Ekadashi gets the fruits of all pilgrimages and yagyas.
In this way one should wake up till sunrise and after bathing the Brahmins should be fed. All things including the idol of God should be given to Brahmins. In this way, those people who worship the Lord and fast according to the law, their birth becomes successful and they go to Vishnulok after enjoying many pleasures in this world.

Hey Arjun! I told you the complete rule of Ekadashi fast. Now I tell the story of those who have devotedly observed the fast of Padmini Ekadashi, listen carefully. This beautiful story was told by Maharishi Pulastya to Naradji - Once Kartavirya locked Ravana in his prison house. Maharishi Pulastya rescued him by pleading with Kartavirya. Hearing this incident, Naradji asked Maharishi Pulastya - 'O Maharishi! How did Kartavirya win this elusive Ravana, who had won Indra along with all the gods? Please tell me in detail.
Maharishi Pulastya said - 'O Narad! You first listen to the story of the origin of Kartavirya - In Tretayuga, a king named Kartavirya ruled in a city named Mahishmati. That king had hundred wives, none of them had a worthy son to take care of the kingdom. Then the king respectfully called the brahmins and performed sacrifices to get a son, but all were in vain. Just as a sad man finds enjoyment boring, in the same way, the king also found his kingdom son without sorrow. In the end, he went to the forest to do penance knowing that he had achieved the achievements through penance. His wife (Pramda, the daughter of King Harishchandra) left the clothes and went to Gandhamadan mountain with her husband. At that place, these people did penance for ten thousand years, but could not achieve success. The king's body remained only a skeleton of bones. Seeing this, Pramada devoutly asked Mahasati Anasuya - 'Ten thousand years have passed while doing penance for my Lord, but till now the Lord is not pleased, so that I can get a son. What is the reason for this?'
Hymn invoking Khatu Shyam: Tere Dwar Khada
After listening to Pramada, Goddess Anasuya said- 'Adhik (Laund) month which comes after thirty-six months, has two Ekadashi. In this, the name of Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha is Padmini and the name of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha is Param. God will definitely give you a son by his awakening and fasting.
After that Goddess Anasuya explained the method of fasting. Rani Pramada fasted on Ekadashi and stayed awake in the night according to the method told by Goddess Anasuya. Lord Vishnu was very pleased with this and asked to ask for a boon. Queen Pramada said- 'Lord you give this boon to my husband.'

Hearing the words of Queen Pramada, Lord Vishnu said - 'O Queen Pramada! Mal Mas (Lound) is very dear. Ekadashi date is most dear to me in that too. The Lord disappeared by giving the desired boon to the king. After that both returned to their kingdom. Kartavirya was born in his place when the time came. He was the most invincible apart from Lord Sri Hari. Kartavirya had conquered Ravana. All this was the effect of fasting on Padmini Ekadashi. After narrating this story, Maharishi Pulastya left from there.
Shri Krishna said- ""O son of Kunti, Arjuna! I have called this the fast of Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Adhik (Laund) month. The person who observes this fast, he goes to Vishnulok.
Sutji said - "" Oh great sages! I told you what you wanted to know. What do you want to know now? The people who listen to this fasting story, they will be entitled to heaven.
