उपासकों के दिलों में आध्यात्मिक विश्वास कुछ ऐसा है जो उन्हें जीवन के उतार-चढ़ाव से गुजरता रहता है। और तमिलनाडु में यह मंदिर, केवल कोई मंदिर नहीं है, यह सबसे पवित्र हिंदू चार धाम स्थलों में से एक है। बद्रीनाथ, पुरी और द्वारका के साथ रामेश्वरम भारत के प्रसिद्ध मंदिर हैं जो तीर्थयात्रियों द्वारा मोक्ष प्राप्त करने के लिए जाते हैं। तमिलनाडु के इस आध्यात्मिक तीर्थ स्थल के बारे में बात करते हुए, यह रामेश्वरम शहर में अपना स्थान पाता है और 274 पाडल पेट्रा स्टालम में से एक है, जो तीन प्रसिद्ध नयनारों, सुंदरार, अप्पर और तिरुगुनाना संबंदर के गीतों में अपना विशेष उल्लेख पाता है।12वीं शताब्दी के आने के साथ, रामेश्वरम मंदिर ने पांड्य राजवंश के हाथों अपने विकास के दिनों को देखा और वैष्णवों, शैवियों और समर्थों के लिए एक पवित्र स्थल के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित है। भारतीय महाकाव्य रामायण इस मंदिर से जुड़ा हुआ है जहां भगवान राम ने लंका के राजा रावण के साथ युद्ध के दौरान किए गए पापों से छुटकारा पाने के लिए भगवान शिव के लिंगम की पूजा की थी।

मंदिर से जुड़ी कहानियां
किंवदंती है कि तमिलनाडु का यह लोकप्रिय मंदिर विष्णु के सातवें अवतार भगवान राम से संबंधित है और भारतीय महाकाव्य रामायण के बारे में बात करता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि भगवान राम ने भगवान राम की पत्नी सीता द्वारा समुद्र के किनारे रेत से बने भगवान शिव के लिंग की पूजा की थी। भगवान राम लंका के राजा रावण के साथ अपने आमने-सामने के दौरान एक ब्राह्मण की हत्या करके किए गए पाप से खुद को मुक्त करना चाहते थे।ऐसा करने के लिए, भगवान राम ने अपने भक्त हनुमान से हिमालय से एक शिवलिंग लाने को कहा। जैसे ही मानव को भगवान राम के लिए लिंगम लाने में देरी हुई, सीता ने उनकी पत्नी ने उनके लिए एक लिंगम बनाया, जिसे मंदिर के गर्भगृह में मौजूद कहा जाता है।
वास्तुकला
रामेश्वरम की तीर्थ यात्रा के लिए श्रद्धालुओं के आने के कई कारणों के अलावा, एक मुख्य कारण यह है कि इस मंदिर में भगवान शिव के 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक है।तमिलनाडु का यह प्रसिद्ध मंदिर दो लिंगों की उपस्थिति से धन्य है, जहां एक को सीता, रामलिंगम और दूसरे को हनुमान द्वारा कैलाश से लाया गया था, जिसे विश्वलिंगम के नाम से जाना जाता है। मंदिर में आज भी सुबह सबसे पहले विश्वलिंगम की पूजा करने की प्रथा का पालन किया जाता है। यह उन प्रसिद्ध मंदिरों में से एक है जो द्रविड़ शैली की वास्तुकला को और अधिक गौरव प्रदान करते हैं, इसकी बारीक तैयार की गई उच्च परिसर की दीवारें, गोपुरम और पूरे भारत में सभी हिंदू मंदिरों में से सबसे लंबा गलियारा है।

The Indian epic Ramayana is associated with this temple where the Lord Rama worshipped the lingam of Lord Shiva to get rid of the sins he committed when he fought with Ravana, the king of Lanka.

Stories Associated With The Temple
Legend has it that this popular temple of Tamil Nadu is related to Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Vishnu and talks about the Indian epic Ramayana. It it believed that Lord Rama worshipped the lingam of Lord Shiva sculpted out of sand of the sea shore by Sita, the consort of Lord Rama. Lord Rama wanted to absolve himself of the sin he committed by killing a Brahmin during his face off with the King of Lanka, Ravana. To do so, Lord Rama asked Hanuman, his devotee to bring one lingam from the Himalayas. As Human gets delayed in bringing the lingam for Lord Rama, Sita his consort carved a lingam for him which is said to be present in the sanctum of the temple.
Architecture
Apart from the many reasons that worshippers come for a pilgrimage tour to Rameshwaram, the one main reason is that this temple houses one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This famous temple of Tamil Nadu is blessed with the presence of two lingams where one was sculpted by Sita, Ramalingam and the other being the one brought by Hanuman from Kailash which is known as Viswalingam. The ritual of worshipping the Viswalingam first in the morning is still followed in the temple. It is one of the famous temple that add more glory to the Dravidian style of architecture with the presence of its finely crafted high compound walls, Gopurams and the longest corridor out of all the Hindu temples all over India.
