रामसेतु में गिलहरी के योगदान की कहानी
माता सीता का हरण होने के बाद, भगवान राम को लंका तक पहुंचने के लिए उनकी वानर सेना जंगल को लंका से जोड़ने के लिए समुद्र के ऊपर पुल बनाने के काम में लग जाती है। पुल बनाने के लिए पत्थर पर भगवान श्रीराम का नाम लिखकर पूरी सेना समुद्र में पत्थर डालती है। भगवान राम का नाम लिखे जाने की वजह से पत्थर समुद्र में डूबने के बजाय तैरने लगते हैं। यह सब देखकर सभी वानर काफी खुश होते हैं और तेजी से पुल बनाने के लिए पत्थर समुद्र में डालने लगते हैं। भगवान राम पुल बनाने के लिए अपनी सेना के उत्साह, समर्पण और जुनून को देखकर काफी खुश होते हैं। उस वक्त वहां एक गिलहरी भी थी, जो मुंह से कंकड़ उठाकर नदी में डाल रही थी। उसे ऐसा बार-बार करते हुए एक वानर देख रहा था।

कुछ देर बाद वानर गिलहरी को देखकर मजाक बनाता है। वानर कहता है, “हे! गिलहरी तुम इतनी छोटी-सी हो, समुद्र से दूर रहो। कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तुम इन्हीं पत्थरों के नीचे दब जाओ।” यह सुनकर दूसरे वानर भी गिलहरी का मजाक बनाने लगते हैं। गिलहरी यह सब सुनकर बहुत दुखी हो जाती है। भगवान राम भी दूर से यह सब होता देखते हैं। गिलहरी की नजर जैसे ही भगवान राम पर पड़ती है, वो रोते- रोते भगवान राम के समीप पहुंच जाती है।

परेशान गिलहरी श्री राम से सभी वानरों की शिकायत करती है। तब भगवान राम खड़े होते हैं और वानर सेना को दिखाते हैं कि गिलहरी ने जिन कंकड़ों व छोटे पत्थरों को फेंका था, वो कैसे बड़े पत्थरों को एक दूसरे से जोड़ने का काम कर रहे हैं। भगवान राम कहते हैं, “अगर गिलहरी इन कंकड़ों को नहीं डालती, तो तुम्हारे द्वारा फेंके गए सारे पत्थर इधर-उधर बिखरे रहते। ये गिलहरी के द्वारा फेंके गए पत्थर ही हैं, जो इन्हें आपस में जोड़े हुए हैं। पुल बनाने के लिए गिलहरी का योगदान भी वानर सेना के सदस्यों जैसा ही अमूल्य है।”

इतना सब कहकर भगवान राम बड़े ही प्यार से गिलहरी को अपने हाथों से उठाते हैं। फिर, गिलहरी के कार्य की सराहना करते हुए श्री राम उसकी पीठ पर बड़े ही प्यार से हाथ फेरने लगते हैं। भगवान के हाथ फेरते ही गिलहरी के छोटे-से शरीर पर उनकी उंगलियों के निशान बन जाते हैं। तब से ही माना जाता है कि गिलहरियों के शरीर पर मौजूद सफेद धारियां कुछ और नहीं, बल्कि भगवान राम की उंगलियों के निशान के रूप में मौजूद उनका आशीर्वाद है।
कहानी से सीख :
दूसरों के कार्य का मजाक नहीं बनाया जाना चाहिए। कार्य में किसी भी तरह का योगदान महत्वपूर्ण होता है। साथ ही दूसरों द्वारा मजाक बनाए जाने के बावजूद आपको अपना आत्मविश्वास नहीं खोना चाहिए।
Story of Squirrel's contribution to Ramsetu
After the abduction of Mother Sita, Lord Rama's monkey army gets busy in building a bridge over the sea to connect the forest with Lanka to reach Lanka. To build a bridge, the entire army throws stones into the sea by writing the name of Lord Shriram on the stone. Due to the name of Lord Rama being written on it, the stones start floating instead of sinking in the sea. Seeing all this, all the monkeys are very happy and start throwing stones into the sea to build a fast bridge. Lord Rama is very happy to see the enthusiasm, dedication and passion of his army to build the bridge. At that time there was also a squirrel, who was picking up pebbles from his mouth and throwing them in the river. A monkey was watching him doing this again and again.

After some time the monkey makes fun of the squirrel. The monkey says, "Hey! Squirrel you are so small, stay away from the sea. Lest it happen that you get buried under these stones. Hearing this, other monkeys also start making fun of the squirrel. The squirrel becomes very sad to hear all this. Lord Ram also sees all this happening from a distance. As soon as the squirrel's eyes fall on Lord Rama, it reaches near Lord Rama crying.

The troubled squirrel complains to Shri Ram about all the monkeys. Then Lord Rama stands up and shows the monkey army how the pebbles and small stones thrown by the squirrel are working to connect the big stones with each other. Lord Rama says, “If the squirrel had not thrown these pebbles, all the stones thrown by you would have been scattered here and there. It is only the stones thrown by the squirrel that hold them together. Squirrel's contribution to building the bridge is as invaluable as that of the members of the monkey army.

Having said all this, Lord Rama lovingly lifts the squirrel with his hands. Then, appreciating the squirrel's work, Sri Rama lovingly strokes its back. Since then it is believed that the white stripes present on the body of the squirrels are nothing but the blessings of Lord Rama present in the form of fingerprints.
