रविवार की व्रत कथा
रविवार व्रत की पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार प्राचीन काल में एक बुढ़िया रहती थी। वह नियमित रूप से रविवार का व्रत करती। रविवार के दिन सूर्योदय से पहले उठकर बुढ़िया स्नानादि से निवृत्त होकर आंगन को गोबर से लीपकर स्वच्छ करती, उसके बाद सूर्य भगवान की पूजा करते हुए रविवार व्रत कथा सुनकर सूर्य भगवान का भोग लगाकर दिन में एक समय भोजन करती। सूर्य भगवान की अनुकंपा से बुढ़िया को किसी प्रकार की चिंता एवं कष्ट नहीं था। धीरे-धीरे उसका घर धन-धान्य से भर रहा था।
उस बुढ़िया को सुखी होते देख उसकी पड़ोसन उससे जलने लगी। बुढ़िया ने कोई गाय नहीं पाल रखी थी। अतः वह अपनी पड़ोसन के आंगन में बंधी गाय का गोबर लाती थी। पड़ोसन ने कुछ सोचकर अपनी गाय को घर के भीतर बांध दिया। रविवार को गोबर न मिलने से बुढ़िया अपना आंगन नहीं लीप सकी। आंगन न लीप पाने के कारण उस बुढ़िया ने सूर्य भगवान को भोग नहीं लगाया और उस दिन स्वयं भी भोजन नहीं किया। सूर्यास्त होने पर बुढ़िया भूखी-प्यासी सो गई।

प्रातःकाल सूर्योदय से पूर्व उस बुढ़िया की आंख खुली तो वह अपने घर के आंगन में सुंदर गाय और बछड़े को देखकर हैरान हो गई। गाय को आंगन में बांधकर उसने जल्दी से उसे चारा लाकर खिलाया। पड़ोसन ने उस बुढ़िया के आंगन में बंधी सुंदर गाय और बछड़े को देखा तो वह उससे और अधिक जलने लगी। तभी गाय ने सोने का गोबर किया। गोबर को देखते ही पड़ोसन की आंखें फट गईं।
पड़ोसन ने उस बुढ़िया को आसपास न पाकर तुरंत उस गोबर को उठाया और अपने घर ले गई तथा अपनी गाय का गोबर वहां रख आई। सोने के गोबर से पड़ोसन कुछ ही दिनों में धनवान हो गई। गाय प्रति दिन सूर्योदय से पूर्व सोने का गोबर किया करती थी और बुढ़िया के उठने के पहले पड़ोसन उस गोबर को उठाकर ले जाती थी।

बहुत दिनों तक बुढ़िया को सोने के गोबर के बारे में कुछ पता ही नहीं चला। बुढ़िया पहले की तरह हर रविवार को भगवान सूर्यदेव का व्रत करती रही और कथा सुनती रही। लेकिन सूर्य भगवान को जब पड़ोसन की चालाकी का पता चला तो उन्होंने तेज आंधी चलाई। आंधी का प्रकोप देखकर बुढ़िया ने गाय को घर के भीतर बांध दिया। सुबह उठकर बुढ़िया ने सोने का गोबर देखा उसे बहुत आश्चर्य हुआ।
उस दिन के बाद बुढ़िया गाय को घर के भीतर बांधने लगी। सोने के गोबर से बुढ़िया कुछ ही दिन में बहुत धनी हो गई। उस बुढ़िया के धनी होने से पड़ोसन बुरी तरह जल-भुनकर राख हो गई और उसने अपने पति को समझा-बुझाकर उसे नगर के राजा के पास भेज दिया। सुंदर गाय को देखकर राजा बहुत खुश हुआ। सुबह जब राजा ने सोने का गोबर देखा तो उसके आश्चर्य का ठिकाना न रहा।

उधर सूर्य भगवान को भूखी-प्यासी बुढ़िया को इस तरह प्रार्थना करते देख उस पर बहुत करुणा आई। उसी रात सूर्य भगवान ने राजा को स्वप्न में कहा, राजन, बुढ़िया की गाय व बछड़ा तुरंत लौटा दो, नहीं तो तुम पर विपत्तियों का पहाड़ टूट पड़ेगा. तुम्हारा महल नष्ट हो जाएगा। सूर्य भगवान के स्वप्न से बुरी तरह भयभीत राजा ने प्रातः उठते ही गाय और बछड़ा बुढ़िया को लौटा दिया।
राजा ने बहुत-सा धन देकर बुढ़िया से अपनी गलती के लिए क्षमा मांगी। राजा ने पड़ोसन और उसके पति को उनकी इस दुष्टता के लिए दंड दिया। फिर राजा ने पूरे राज्य में घोषणा कराई कि सभी स्त्री-पुरुष रविवार का व्रत किया करें। रविवार का व्रत करने से सभी लोगों के घर धन-धान्य से भर गए, राजतय में चारों ओर खुशहाली छा गई। स्त्री-पुरुष सुखी जीवन यापन करने लगे तथा सभी लोगों के शारीरिक कष्ट भी दूर हो गए।

The neighbor thought something and tied his cow inside the house. Due to non-availability of cow dung on Sunday, the old woman could not jump in her courtyard. Due to not being able to jump the courtyard, that old woman did not offer bhog to the Sun God and did not eat herself that day. At sunset, the old woman slept hungry and thirsty.

When the old woman opened her eyes in the morning before sunrise, she was surprised to see a beautiful cow and calf in the courtyard of her house. Tying the cow in the courtyard, he quickly brought fodder and fed it. When the neighbor saw the beautiful cow and calf tied in the courtyard of that old woman, she became more envious of that. That's why the cow dung gold. Neighbor's eyes burst on seeing cow dung.
The neighbor, not finding that old lady around, immediately picked up that cow dung and took it to her house and kept her cow dung there. The neighbor became rich in a few days from the gold dung. The cow used to dung every day before sunrise and the neighbor used to pick up that dung before the old woman got up.

For many days the old woman did not know anything about the gold dung. Like before, the old woman kept on observing Lord Suryadev's fast every Sunday and kept listening to the story. But when the Sun God came to know about the cleverness of the neighbor, he started a strong storm. Seeing the wrath of the storm, the old woman tied the cow inside the house. Waking up in the morning, the old woman saw the dung of gold, she was very surprised.
After that day the old lady started tying the cow inside the house. The old woman became very rich with the gold dung in a few days. Due to the wealth of that old woman, the neighbor was badly burnt to ashes and after persuading her husband, she sent him to the king of the city. The king was very happy to see the beautiful cow. When the king saw the dung of gold in the morning, there was no room for his surprise.

On the other side, seeing the hungry and thirsty old lady praying to the Sun God in this way, she felt a lot of compassion. The same night, the Sun God told the king in a dream, Rajan, return the old woman's cow and calf immediately, otherwise a mountain of calamities will befall you. Your palace will be destroyed. Horrified by the dream of the Sun God, the king returned the cow and the calf to the old woman as soon as he woke up in the morning.
The king apologized to the old woman for his mistake by giving a lot of money. The king punished the neighbor and her husband for their wickedness. Then the king announced in the whole state that all men and women should fast on Sundays. By fasting on Sunday, all the people's houses were filled with money and grains, there was prosperity everywhere in the kingdom. Men and women started living a happy life and physical sufferings of all the people also went away.
