शबरी की अद्भुत भक्ति की कथा
शबरी भगवन राम की परम भक्त थी| वह ”शबर” जाती की एक भोली भाली लड़की थी| शबर जाती के लोग देखने में बहुत कुरूप होते हैं| लेकिन शबरी इतनी कुरूप थी की शबर जाती के लोग भी उसका तिरस्कार करते थे|
रामायण का सबसे सुन्दर भजन : जन जन के प्रिये राम लखन सिया वन को जाते हैं
शबरी के माँ-बाप को शबरी के विअवः की बहुत चिंता होती थी| वे दिन रात बस इसी चिंता में डूबे रहते थे की आखिर शबरी के वैवाहिक जिवन का क्या होगा|
आख़िरकार शबरी के माता पिता को शबर जाती का एक विअवः योग्य लड़का मिल गया| माता-पिता के रात्री में शबरी का विवाह कर उसे रात्रि में ही विदा कर दिया| उन्हें डर था की कहीं लड़का शबरी को देखकर विवाह के लिए इंकार न कर दे|
रुला देने वाला रामायण भजन: हे राम अयोध्या छोड़ कर वन मत जाओ
शबरी अपने पति के साथ रात्रि में ही निकल गई| आगे-आगे शबरी का पति चल रहा था और पीछे-पीछे शबरी| चलते-चलते वे दण्डकवन में आ पहुंचे| वहां उन्हें सुबह हो गई| लड़के ने सोचा देखूं तो सही मेरी स्त्री कैसी दिखती है|
लड़के ने पीछे मुड़कर देखा तो शबरी की कुरूपता देखकर वह डर गया| उसे लगा यह तो कोई राक्षश कुल ही है जो मुझे यहीं खा जाएगी| यह सोचकर लड़का शबरी को वहीँ छोड़कर भाग गया|

अब शबरी दण्डकवन में अकेली रह गई| वह पीहर से तो आ गई थी लेकिन उसे अपने ससुराल का कोई पता न था| अब शबरी जाए तो कहाँ जाए|
दण्डकवन में रहने वाले ऋषि शबरी को अछूत मानकर उसका तिरस्कार करने लगे| उसी वन में “मतंग” नाम के एक ऋषि महात्मा रहते थे| मातंग ऋषि को शबरी को देख कर उस पर दया आ गई| उन्होंने शबरी पर कृपा कर उसे अपने आश्रम में रहने के लिए शरण दे दी|
अति सुन्दर राम भजन: ओ माइयाँ तैने क्या ठानी मन में
दुसरे ऋषि-मुनियों ने जब यह सब देखा तो उन्होंने इस बात का बहुत विरोध किया की उन्होंने एक कुरूप और अछूत जाती की लड़की को अपने आश्रम में शरण दे दी| लेकिन मतंग ऋषि ने किसी की भी एक बात न सुनी|
उन्होंने प्रेम से शबरी के सर पर हाथ रखा और कहा – “बेटा! तुम घबराओ नहीं, जैसे कोई पुत्री अपने माँ बाप के पास रहती है वैसे ही तुम मेरे पास रह जाओ| शबरी अब ख़ुशी-ख़ुशी मतंग ऋषि के आश्रम में रहने लगी|
इस भजन से मिलती है मन को शांति: दुनिया चले न श्री राम के बिना
शबरी को ऋषि-मुनियों की सेवा करने में बड़ा आनंद आता था| सब ऋषि-मुनि शबरी का तिरस्कार करते थे इसलिए शबरी छिप-छिप कर उनकी सेवा किया करती थी|
रात में जब सब सो जाया करते थे तो शबरी रात में ऋषियों के स्नान के लिए पम्पा सरोवर जाने वाले रास्ते को जा कर बुहार देती थी| जहाँ कंकड़-पत्थर पड़े होते थे उन्हें हटा कर वहां बालू बिछा देती थी| ऋषियों के लिए इंधन ला कर रख देती थी|

अगर कोई शबरी को देख लेता तो वह वहां से डर के मारे भाग जाती थी| उसे डर था की कहीं मेरी छाया ऋषि-मुनियों पर पद गई तो वह अशुद्ध हो जाएँगे| बस इसी प्रकार ऋषि-मुनियों की सेवा में उसका समय बीतता गया|
आखिर एक दिन वह समय भी आ पहुंचा जो सबके लिए अनिवार्य है| मतंग ऋषि का समय छुटने का समय आ गया था| जैसे माँ-बाप के मरते समय बालक रोता है वैसे ही शबरी भी फुट-फुट कर रोने लगी थी| रोने के सिवा वह कर भी क्या सकती थी|
राज पारीक जी का मनमोहक भजन: मेरे सरकार आये हैं
मतंग ऋषि ने शबरी को अपने पास बुलाया और कहा, बेटा! तुम चिंता न करो, एक दिन तुम्हारे पास भगवान् राम आएँगे| बस इतना कहकर मतंग ऋषि शरीर छोड़कर चले गए|
अब शबरी दिन रात भगवन राम की प्रतीक्षा करने लगी| रात में किसी जानवर के चलने से पत्तों की खडखडाहट भी होती तो शबरी बहार आ कर देखने लगी की कहीं भगवान् राम तो नहीं आ गए|
तृप्ति शाक्य जी का लोकप्रिय भजन: भये प्रगट कृपाला
वह प्रतिदिन कुटिया के बाहर पुष्प बिछाती और तरह-तरह के फल लाकर रख देती थी| फलों में भी बढ़िया-बढ़िया फल राम जी के लिए चखकर रख देती थी| फिर राम जी नहीं आते तो अगले दिन फिर नए फल ले आती| राम जी को भोजन करने का उसके मन में बहुत उत्साह था|
प्रतीक्षा करते-करते एक दिन शबरी की साधना सफल हुई| मतंग ऋषि के वचन सत्य हुए| भगवान् राम शबरी की कुटिया में पधारे|
कई बड़े-बड़े ऋषि मुनियों ने भगवान् राम से उनके आश्रम में चलने के लिए प्रार्थना की लेकिन भगवान् राम केवल शबरी की कुटिया में आए| जैसे शबरी को भगवान् राम से मिलने की तीव्र इच्छा थी ठीक वैसे ही भगवान् राम भी को भी शबरी से मिलने की उत्कंठा थी|
सबसे लोकप्रिय भजन: राम को देखकर
भगवान् राम शबरी की कुटिया में पहुंचे! शबरी के आनंद की सीमा नहीं रही| वह भगवान् के चरणों में लिपट गई| जल लाकर उनसे भगवान् के चरण धोए| फिर आसन बिछाकर भगवन को बैठाया| फल लाकर शबरी ने भगवान् के सामने रखे और प्रेम पूर्वक उनको खिलाने लगी|

Shabri's parents were very worried about Shabri's marriage. Day and night he used to be immersed in this worry that what would happen to Shabari's married life.
At last Shabari's parents found a marriageable boy from the Shabar caste. The parents got Shabri married in the night and sent her away in the night itself. They were afraid that the boy might refuse to marry after seeing Shabri.

Shabri left with her husband in the night itself. Shabri's husband was walking in front and Shabri behind. While walking, they reached Dandakavan. There they got morning. The boy thought, let me see how my wife looks like.
When the boy looked back, he was horrified to see Shabari's ugliness. He felt that this is some monster clan that will eat me right here. Thinking of this, the boy ran away leaving Shabri there.

Now Shabri was left alone in Dandakavan. She had come from Pihar but she had no idea about her in-laws house. Where should Shabri go now?
The sages living in Dandakavan began to despise Shabari considering her an untouchable. A sage Mahatma named "Matang" lived in the same forest. Matang Rishi felt pity on seeing Shabari. He took pity on Shabari and gave her shelter to live in his ashram.

When other sages saw all this, they strongly protested that they had given shelter to an ugly and untouchable caste girl in their hermitage. But sage Matang did not listen to anyone.
He lovingly placed his hand on Shabari's head and said - "Son! Don't worry, stay with me like a daughter stays with her parents. Shabri now happily started living in Matang Rishi's ashram.

Shabri used to take great pleasure in serving the sages. All sages and sages despised Shabari, so Shabari used to serve them secretly.
At night, when everyone used to sleep, Shabri used to go to Pampa Sarovar for the bath of the sages and used to shower in the night. Where pebbles and stones were lying, she used to remove them and lay sand there. Used to bring fuel for the sages.

After all, one day that time has also come which is mandatory for everyone. The time had come for Matang Rishi to leave. Just like a child cries when its parents die, similarly Shabri also started crying bitterly. What could she do except cry.

Matang Rishi called Shabri to him and said, Son! Don't worry, one day Lord Ram will come to you. Saying just this, Matang Rishi left his body and went away.
Now Shabri started waiting for Lord Ram day and night. Even if there was a rustle of leaves due to the movement of an animal in the night, Shabri came out to see if Lord Rama had come.

Everyday she used to spread flowers outside the cottage and bring different types of fruits. Even among the fruits, she used to taste and keep the best fruits for Ram ji. Then Ram ji would not have come, then the next day she would have brought new fruits. He had a lot of enthusiasm in his mind to feed Ram ji.
While waiting, one day Shabri's meditation was successful. Matang Rishi's words came true. Lord Ram came to Shabari's cottage.
Many great sages prayed to Lord Rama to walk in his ashram but Lord Rama only came to Shabari's hut. Just as Shabari had a strong desire to meet Lord Ram, similarly Lord Ram also had a strong desire to meet Shabari.

Lord Ram reached Shabri's cottage! Shabri's joy knew no bounds. She hugged at the feet of the Lord. Washed the feet of God by bringing water. Then God was made to sit by spreading the seat. After bringing the fruit, Shabri placed it in front of God and started feeding him with love.
