बाबा खाटू श्याम का संबंध महाभारत काल से है। ये पांडुपुत्र भीम के पोते थे। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि खाटू श्याम की शक्तियों और क्षमता से खुश होकर श्री कृष्ण ने इन्हें कलियुग में अपने नाम से पूजने का वरदान दे डाला था।
खाटूश्यामजी की कहानी - Story of Khatushyamji
वनवास के दौरान, जब पांडव अपनी जान बचाते हुए इधर-उधर घूम रहे थे, तब भीम का सामना हिडिम्बा से हुआ। हिडिम्बा ने भीम से एक पुत्र को जन्म दिया जिसे घटोखा कहा जाता था। घटोखा से पुत्र हुआ बर्बरीक। इन दोनों को अपनी वीरता और शक्तियों के लिए जाना जाता था। जब कौरव और पांडवों के बीच युद्ध होना था, तब बर्बरीक ने युद्ध देखने का निर्णेय लिया था। श्री कृष्ण ने जब उनसे पूछा कि वो युद्ध में किसकी तरफ हैं, तब उन्होंने कहा था कि जो पक्ष हारेगा वो उसकी तरफ से लड़ेंगे। ऐसे में श्री कृष्ण युद्ध का परिणाम जानते थे और उन्हें डर था कि ये कहीं पांडवों के लिए उल्टा न पड़ जाए। ऐसे में कृष्ण जी ने बर्बरीक को रोकने के लिए दान की मांग की। दान में उन्होंने उनसे शीश मांग लिया। दान में बर्बरीक ने उनको शीश दे दिया, लेकिन आखिर तक उन्होंने अपनी आंखों से युद्ध देखने की इच्छा जाहिर की।
श्री कृष्ण ने इच्छा स्वीकार करते हुए उनका सिर युद्ध वाली जगह पर एक पहाड़ी पर रख दिया। युद्ध के बाद पांडव लड़ने लगे कि जीत का श्रेय किसको जाता है, इसमें बर्बरीक कहते हैं कि श्री कृष्ण की वजह से उन्हें जीत हासिल हुई है। श्री कृष्ण इस बलिदान से काफी खुश हुए और उन्हें कलियुग में श्याम के नाम से पूजे जाने का वरदान दे दिया।
कैसे हुआ खाटू श्याम मंदिर का निर्माण - How Khatu Shyam Temple was built
ऐसा कहा जाता है कि कलयुग की शुरुआत में राजस्थान के खाटू गांव में उनका सिर मिला था। कहते हैं ये अद्भुत घटना तब घटी जब वहां खड़ी गाय के थन से अपने आप दूध बहने लगा था। इस चमत्कारिक घटना को जब खोदा गया तो यहां खाटू श्याम जी का सिर मिला। अब लोगों के बीच में ये दुविधा शुरू हो गई कि इस सिर का किया जाए। बाद में उन्होंने सर्वसम्मति से एक पुजारी को सिर सौंपने का फैसला किया। इसी बीच क्षेत्र के तत्कालीन शासक रूप सिंह को मंदिर बनवाने का सपना आया। इस प्रकार रूप सिंह चौहान के कहने पर इस जगह पर मंदिर निर्माण शुरू किया गया और खाटूश्याम की मूर्ति स्थापित की गई।
खाटू श्याम मंदिर की वास्तुकला - Architecture of Khatu Shyam Temple
1027 ई. में रूप सिंह द्वारा बनाए गए मंदिर को मुख्य रूप से एक भक्त द्वारा मॉडिफाई किया गया था। दीवान अभय सिंह ने 1720 ई. में इसका पुनिर्माण कराया था। इस प्रकार मूर्ति को मंदिर के मुख्य गर्भगृह में स्थापित किया गया। मंदिर का निर्माण पत्थरों और संगमरमर का उपयोग करके किया गया है। द्वार सोने की पत्ती से सुशोभित है। मंदिर के बाहर जगमोहन के नाम से जाना जाने वाला प्रार्थना कक्ष भी है।

खाटू श्याम का मंदिर जयपुर से 80 किमी दूर खाटू गांव में मौजूद है। खाटू श्याम जी पहुंचने के लिए सबसे पास का रेलवे स्टेशन रिंगस है। जहां से बाबा के मंदिर की दूरी 18.5 किमी है। रेलवे स्टेशन से निकलने के बाद आपको मंदिर के लिए टैक्सी और जीप ले सकते हैं। अगर आप फ्लाइट से जा रहे हैं, तो सबसे नजदीकी एयरपोर्ट जयपुर इंटरनेशनल एयरपोर्ट है। यहां से मंदिर की दूरी 95 किमी है। अगर आप दिल्ली से बाय रोड खाटू श्याम मंदिर जा रहे हैं, तो आपको पहुंचने में करीबन 4 से 5 घंटे का समय लगेगा।

Baba Khatu Shyam is related to Mahabharata period. He was the grandson of Panduputra Bhima. It is said that pleased with the powers and abilities of Khatu Shyam, Shri Krishna granted him the boon of worshiping him in his name in Kali Yuga.
Story of Khatushyamji
During the exile, while the Pandavas were roaming around saving their lives, Bhima encountered Hidimba. Hidimba gave birth to a son from Bhima who was called Ghatokha. Barbarik was the son of Ghatokha. Both of them were known for their valor and powers. When there was to be a war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, Barbarik decided to watch the war. When Shri Krishna asked him on whose side he was in the war, he had said that the side that loses will fight on his side. In such a situation, Shri Krishna knew the result of the war and he was afraid that it might backfire for the Pandavas. In such a situation, Krishna ji demanded a donation to stop Barbarik. In charity, he asked for a head from him. In charity, Barbarik gave him his head, but till the end he expressed his desire to see the war with his own eyes.
Accepting the wish, Shri Krishna placed his head on a hill at the battle site. After the war, the Pandavas started fighting as to whom the credit for the victory goes, in which Barbarika says that they have won because of Shri Krishna. Shri Krishna was very pleased with this sacrifice and granted him a boon to be worshiped in the name of Shyam in Kali Yuga.
How Khatu Shyam Temple was built
It is said that his head was found in Khatu village of Rajasthan at the beginning of Kali Yuga. It is said that this wonderful incident happened when milk started flowing on its own from the udder of the cow standing there. When this miraculous incident was excavated, Khatu Shyam's head was found here. Now this dilemma has started among the people that this head should be done. Later they unanimously decided to hand over the head to a priest. Meanwhile, the then ruler of the region, Roop Singh, had a dream of building a temple. Thus, at the behest of Roop Singh Chauhan, the construction of the temple was started at this place and the idol of Khatushyam was installed.
Architecture of Khatu Shyam Temple
The temple built by Roop Singh in 1027 AD was mainly modified by a devotee. Diwan Abhay Singh had it renovated in 1720 AD. Thus the idol was placed in the main sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The temple has been constructed using stones and marble. The door is decorated with gold leaf. There is also a prayer hall known as Jagmohan outside the temple.

The temple of Khatu Shyam is present in Khatu village, 80 km from Jaipur. The nearest railway station to reach Khatu Shyam Ji is Ringas. From where the distance of Baba's temple is 18.5 km. After leaving the railway station, you can take a taxi and jeep to the temple. If you are going by flight, then the nearest airport is Jaipur International Airport. The distance of the temple from here is 95 km. If you are going from Delhi to By Road Khatu Shyam Mandir, then it will take you about 4 to 5 hours to reach.
