शेर कैसे बना मां दुर्गा का वाहन?
शेर के मां दुर्गा का वाहन बनने की कहानी तब शुरू होती है, जब देवी पार्वती घोर तपस्या करके भगवान शिव को पति के रूप में पाने की कोशिश कर रही थीं। सालों तक तप करने के बाद माता पार्वती को भोले भंडारी अपनी पत्नी के रूप में अपना लेते हैं। इसी बीच तपस्या की वजह से मां पार्वती का रंग काफी काला पड़ गया था। एक दिन ऐसे ही बातचीत के दौरान भगवान शिव मां पार्वती को काली कह देते हैं। यह बात उन्हें पसंद नहीं आती, वो नाराज होकर दोबारा तप करने के लिए चली जाती हैं।

एक दिन बाद घूमते-घूमते एक शेर घोर तप कर रहीं मां पार्वती के पास पहुंचा। उन्हें खाने की इच्छा से वो वहां घूमता रहा। मां को तप में लीन देखकर शेर भी वहीं इंतजार करता रहा। देवी का इंतजार करते-करते सालों बीत गए। शेर मां पार्वती के तेज की वजह से उनके पास नहीं पहुंच पाता था। कोशिश करता और असफलता हाथ लगने पर दोबारा लौटकर कोने में बैठ जाता।

होते-होते कई साल बीत गए। मां के तप से खुश होकर भगवान शिव प्रकट हुए और मां से मन चाहा वर मांगने को कहा। देवी पार्वती अपना गोरा रंग वापस चाहती हैं। भगवान ने आशीर्वाद दिया और वहां से चले गए। वरदान मिलते ही मां पार्वती नहाने के लिए चली गईं।

नहाते ही उनके शरीर से एक और देवी का जन्म हुआ, जिनका नाम कौशिकी पड़ा। उनके शरीर से काला रंग भी निकल गया था और मां का रंग पहले की तरह ही साफ हो गया। इसी वजह से माता पार्वती का नाम मां गौरी भी पड़ गया। नहाने के कुछ देर बाद मां की नजर शेर पर पड़ी। शेर को देखते ही उन्होंने भगवान शिव को याद किया और शेर के लिए भी वरदान मांगा।

माता पार्वती ने भगवान से कहा, “हे नाथ! यह शेर सालों से मुझे भोजन के रूप में ग्रहण करने के लिए इंतजार कर रहा था। मेरे पूरे तप के दौरान यह यहीं था। जितना तप मैंने किया है, उतनी ही तपस्या इसने भी की है। इसी वजह से अब वरदान के रूप में इस शेर को मेरी सवारी बना दीजिए। भगवान ने प्रसन्न होकर माता की बात मान ली और शेर को उनकी सवारी बना दिया। आशीर्वाद मिलने के बाद माता शेर पर सवार हो गईं और तभी से उनका नाम मां शेरावाली और दुर्गा पड़ गया।

After getting the blessings, Mata rode on the lion and since then she got the name Maa Sherawali and Durga.
