वट सावित्री व्रत कथा
यह विवाहित हिंदू महिलाओं के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण पालन है, व्रत ज्येष्ठ के महीने में या तो पुरीना या अमावस्या पर मनाया जाता है। उपवास 'त्रयोदशी' (13 वेंदिन) से शुरू होता है और पूर्णि माया अमावस्या पर समाप्त होता है। वट सावित्री व्रत, जिसे 'वटपूर्णि माव्रत' भी कहा जाता है, 'ज्येष्ठ पूर्णिमा' के दौरान होता है। विवाहित भारतीय महिलाएं अपने पति और बच्चों की भलाई के लिए वट सावित्री व्रत रखती हैं।

किंवदंती के अनुसार, मद्रा साम्राज्य के शासक, राजा अश्वपति और उनकी निःसंतान रानी ने एक ऋषि की सलाह पर सूर्य देव सावित्री के सम्मान में समर्पित रूप से पूजा की। देवता युगल की भक्ति से प्रसन्न हुए और उन्हें एक कन्या का आशीर्वाद दिया, जिसे उन्होंने देवता के सम्मान में सावित्री नाम दिया। एक राजा की बेटी होने के बावजूद लड़की एक सादा जीवन जीती थी।

राजा ने सावित्री को अपने लिए एक पति खोजने के लिए कहा क्योंकि उसे अपनी बेटी के लिए उपयुक्त वर नहीं मिल रहा था। सावित्री एक संभावित की तलाश में, निर्वासित अंधे राजा द्युमत्सेन के पुत्र सत्यवान से मिलीं। जब उसने अपने पिता को अपने फैसले के बारे में बताया, तो नारदमुनि ने हस्तक्षेप किया, यह भविष्य वाणी करते हुए कि सत्यवान, जिसे उसने अपने पति के रूप में चुना था, एक वर्ष के भीतर मर जाएगा और उसके बाद उसे पृथ्वी पर जीवन नहीं दिया जाएगा।

राजा अश्वपति ने अपनी बेटी को उसके फैसले पर पुनर्विचार करने के लिए मनाने के सभी प्रयासों के विफल होने के बाद आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया। सावित्री अपने पति के साथ सत्यवान से शादी करने के बाद जंगल में चली गई, जहां वह अपने माता-पिता के साथ रहता था। उसने अपना शाही पहनावा छोड़ दिया और अपने स्वभाव के अनुरूप और अपने पति के जीवन को ध्यान में रखते हुए एक साधु के रूप में रहने का फैसला किया।

सावित्री ने गणना के दिन से तीन दिन पहले उपवास करना शुरू कर दिया और फिर नियत दिन पर अपने पति के साथ वन में चली गई। लकड़ी काटते समय बरगद के पेड़ से गिर कर सत्यवान की मौत हो गई। सत्यवान की आत्मा को मृत्यु के देवता यम ने पुनः प्राप्त किया था। किंवदंती के अनुसार, सावित्री ने भगवान यम का पीछा करना जारी रखा और हार मानने से इनकार कर दिया। यम का पीछा करने के तीन दिन और रात के बाद, यम ने हार मानली और सावित्री से सत्यवान के जीवन के अलावा कुछ भी मांगने को कहा। उसने अपनी पहली और दूसरी इच्छाएँ प्राप्त करने के बाद भी यम का अनुसरण करना जारी रखा – अपने ससुर के कानून और उसकी दृष्टि को बहाल करने के लिए। मौत के भगवान ने उसे सलाह दी कि वह अपने पति के जीवन के अलावा कुछ और तलाश करे। सावित्री ने सत्यवान के साथ सौ संतानों काअनुरोध किया, जिसने यम को एक बंधन में डाल दिया। यम ने युवती की अपने पति के प्रति समर्पण से प्रभावित हो कर उसे सत्यवान का जीवन प्रदान किया।
उस दिन से लाखों विवाहित हिंदू महिलाओं ने अपने पति की लंबी उम्र के सम्मान में वट सावित्री व्रत मनाया।

Savitri started fasting three days before the day of reckoning and then went to the forest with her husband on the appointed day. Satyavan died by falling from a banyan tree while cutting wood. Satyavan's soul was retrieved by Yama, the god of death. As per the legend, Savitri continued to chase Lord Yama and refused to give up. After three days and nights of chasing Yama, Yama gives up and asks Savitri to ask for anything except Satyavan's life. He continued to follow Yama even after getting his first and second wishes – to restore his father-in-law's law and his vision. The Lord of Death advised her to seek something other than the life of her husband. Savitri requested a hundred children with Satyavan, which put Yama in a bind. Yama, impressed by the girl's devotion to her husband, gave her the life of Satyavan.
